Game Thread Ohio State 20, Wisconsin 17 (Oct. 4)

Let's not underestimate these guys. Wisky has the ability to run the ball down our throats the entire game. Make no mistake about it. Question is: Can our D step up and stop their running game. IF not, it could be a long day for the good guys.

:osu:

Agreed - as dangerous as we look offensively with Beanie and Pryor in the backfield we have to really be ready on D and fly around making plays. I do like the fact that PJ Hill is a bigger back since we seem to have more of a challenge with smaller, quicker guys. Stopping the run is key, their passing game doesn't impress me as much - with or without Beckum - the QB play was not impressive against TSUN. We need to be ready though - they will be really pumped up after losing last week and being at home.

Buckeyes' 19-game win streak snapped

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Lee Evans was in danger of being shut out by Chris Gamble's blanket coverage and linebacker Robert Reynolds' dirty play that sidelined Wisconsin's starting quarterback.

"We felt they wouldn't expect the deep throw. We thought it was the right time to do it," Evans said of his 79-yard touchdown reception from backup Matt Schabert with 5:20 left that gave the 23rd-ranked Badgers a 17-10 victory over No. 3 Ohio State on Saturday night.

Thus ended the defending national champions' 19-game winning streak.

"It's a feeling that nobody likes," said Buckeyes quarterback Craig Krenzel, who lost to just the second time in 20 career starts. "At the same time it's a feeling that you have to forget. We'll find out a lot about our character this week."

It's funny that we won all those games in 2003, yet it still is my least favorite of all of Tressel's seasons. Oh what wounds beating Michigan can heal. I love beating Michigan. We could go 0-11, then beat Michigan, and all those 11 losses would be avenged.

I really hate Michigan is what i'm trying to say. AND I HATE WISCONSIN MORE THAT THEY HANDED THEM THAT GAME TWO DAYS AGO!

It was like...oh, we don't want to win, here you go threet, you have the game, just run for a million yards on a play, we don't care. We don't want to beat you. We are wisconsin, we don't like to win here, even though you are the WORST FOOTBALL TEAM IN THE BIG TEN!

Yeah, that season was pretty brutal at times. The close calls were exciting the year before, but when you're defending champs coming off the best victory in 30 years, and need miracles to beat SDSU and NC St., it's just frustrating. With the total absence of a rushing game, it's amazing how close we came to running the table. Michael Jenkins carried the O that year. Tells you just how much of an impact W. Smith, D. Scott, and T. Anderson made.

Buckeyes still respect Badgers

OSU hasn't been to Camp Randall Stadium in 6 years and lost its last two games there

By Rusty Miller
Associated Press

Tuesday, September 30, 2008
COLUMBUS ? Moments after No. 14 Ohio State beat Minnesota 34-21 Saturday, Sept. 27, in both teams' Big Ten opener, the Buckeyes had already shifted their focus to the next task on their to-do list.
"Wisconsin is a challenge. It's a huge game," linebacker James Laurinaitis said. "They deserve every bit of respect we can give them."
A few hours later, that last statement was open to some debate.
The ninth-ranked Badgers piled up a 19-0 lead on downtrodden Michigan, seemingly the latest batch of bad news for Wolverines fans since Rich Rodriguez was hired last winter to introduce a breath of fresh air to the UM program.
But instead of wilting as they had done in lopsided losses to Utah and Notre Dame, the Wolverines ran off the next 27 points and then weathered a disallowed two-point conversion pass in the final seconds to stun the Badgers 27-25 late in the twilight at The Big House.
All of a sudden, Ohio State's not the only Big Ten power licking its wounds.

Bielema upset with media for Badger-ing

UW coach says team doesn't have to talk

The Associated Press ? September 30, 2008

MADISON ? Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema is tired about talking about his team's heartbreaking loss to Michigan on Saturday. He's also not too thrilled about his players talking about it either.
Wisconsin (3-1, 0-1 Big Ten) blew a 19-0 halftime lead against the Wolverines and went on to lose 27-25. The loss dropped Wisconsin nine spots in the polls to No. 18.
Bielema used his weekly Monday news conference to chastise the media for asking the team's four captains too much about the loss on Sunday.
"I gave specific indication to those guys, 'Hey if you want to talk about Saturday you can, but try to get the media to move forward with you. If you don't want to talk about Saturday, you don't have to,' " Bielema said. "Some of you forget to realize that players don't have to do interviews. When they're constantly being hammered about what's happened on Saturday it reinforces in my mind how well they think.
"The rest of the world can talk about last Saturday. As coaches, as players, as people that walk in our program we cannot spend one minute on Sunday until this coming Saturday worrying about what transpired on Saturday.

Bielema wants ?1-0? mentality

After avoiding a trap game at Fresno State weeks ago, the Badgers found themselves badly wounded by the Michigan Wolverines in a heartbreaking 27-25 Big Ten loss Saturday afternoon.
Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema discussed the defeat at his weekly press conference Monday.
?Since I?ve been here, we?ve only had to endure a loss six times,? Bielema said. ?It?s not easy. It?s nothing I want to ever get used to, but it?s something you have to endure. Our players made references to 1-0, and this is the mentality we have to take.?
For a team that usually comes out firing after halftime, the Badgers could not have looked more unlike themselves, allowing 27 points in the second half after forcing five turnovers in the first two quarters.
?They were not as good in the second half as they were in the first half,? Bielema said of his defense giving up big plays late in the game. ?There are only 68 snaps, but when things start to go against you, when momentum starts to swing to that other side, every rep you start to feel it a little bit more.?

Badgers speak only in present tense

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 3:03 AM
By Bob Baptist

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Regardless of how good or bad of a season Wisconsin is having, the Badgers never are better than 1-0 or worse than 0-1. Bret Bielema instituted his version of living in the moment two years ago, his first season as coach. Each week, the Badgers try to finish 1-0. Then, instead of taking Sunday off, they watch the video of the previous day's game, wrap up the week, take Monday off and start fresh.
The Badgers couldn't leave last week behind fast enough. Saturday, they squandered a 19-0 lead at Michigan and lost 27-25 to the Wolverines.
"In four different interviews I listened to (Sunday) night, our players made reference to 1-0 and that this is the mentality they've got to take," Bielema said yesterday during his weekly news conference.
"I love hearing our guys regurgitate what we say as coaches. I really believe in the things we emphasize, and hopefully that will help them get through the time that they're in right now."
The Badgers have no time to lament the loss. They play host to Ohio State on Saturday night in a nationally televised game in Camp Randall Stadium.
Ohio State is two-time defending Big Ten champion and ranked No. 14. Wisconsin is 16-0 at home under Bielema and is ranked No. 18. The Badgers will be playing at home for the first time in four weeks.
"I believe they're excited to play football again," Bielema said. "Anytime you play the game they did on Saturday and have it end the way it did, they're going to be excited to play anywhere. To have it be in Camp Randall, to have it be at night, to be in an environment they've had a lot of success in, I'm sure makes them all feel better -- including the head coach."
