OSU is not making much of a statement here...struggling against Purdue's defense.

Penn State didn't make a "statement" against Purdue's defense, either, and the Lions have scored a lot more than us.

I'm unable to see the game, but it appears to me that we have really lacked the big play scoring this year that we have had in recent years. Are we going deep on these guys in the air?

first half thought guys??

Offense- Wow, the offensive line is very poor. The right side is getting destroyed. I think Beanie must be hurting more than usual today because we haven't seen him hardly at all. Pryor is really throwing the ball late (although throwing to the correct man, this will come in due time). Dropped passes, poor offensive line play, and non existant play from our back up RB's is a problem.

Also what has happened to using the atheltic ability of Pryor?? Besides being sacked we've had maybe 3 plays where Pryor has kept the ball. They need to get Pryor going running the ball IMO.

Defense- Well all is good besides that one draw play they had up the middle (which was very obvious). Malcolm came to play today.

They held PSU to 20 (I believe, or was it 21?) last week. That's not a bad defensive football team. However, the OL simply has to play better, or good defensive teams (PSU) will eat them alive. The OL play this year is as disappointing as any singular unit (to me) in recent memory. I really thought it would be a strength this year, but now I just cannot wait to get the new blood in there. The RZ offense has been so meek this year, but I think a lot of that has to do with having a young QB. Defense looks very good and the line actually seems to be getting some pressure on Painter.

True, but it's just frustrating to see OSU get to the redzone or get the ball on the opponent's 35 and not be able to do much. I just want to see Pryor get some big passing or running plays again. OSU can't afford to have him being so tentative this season.

Not yet.
Pass protection has been spotty so I'm not sure if we called some deep stuff but never got it off. Pryor went down 3 times but Todd would've been sacked several times that half.

1st half thoughts...

Defense...loving the aggressive style with the pre-snap games. Painter is confused and antsy.

Been a few miscommunications on the DL/LBs which has led to a few decent runs from Purdue.

Overall, good effort from the D.

Offensively...so many fans complain about vanilla, plain-jane playcalling but imho, it was the exact opposite that cost us more points in the first half.

Playaction with Beanie in the game is lethal...it gets Pryor moving and it provides time that otherwise is not there.

Beanie is Beanie. Feed Beanie. Everyone straighten out one arm in honor of Beanie.

O-Line--Hmmm. Well, the young talent is hungry. Justin Boren is KOing folks in practice and although he cannot take a schollie, he is working on opening up a few. It is what it is...and we have to accept that this year. Believe about half of what you read regarding the OL...its just not there.

WRs--Pryor loves Posey. That is obvious. Now its time for the other WRs to accept what is happening and get moving. Hartline's lack of focus lately only feeds into the notion that he is not happy. Get over it and play ball.

Not a bad effort overall, but it seems as if there is a constant experiment out there. Feed Beanie, run playaction off of Beanie, get Pryor moving...play ball.

Well if/when we score a TD this half we'll already have matched PSU's game total, but you also have to take in account that Royster ran wild on them. As well as all their points came from their offense not their special teams.

Roll pryor and get him moving in the right direction. I think having him drop back and scan the field is asking a lot from a freshman. What bout some quick passes to the WR's to get Pryor going? A QB Spring? Something has to be done to get Pryor loose. We play like this next week and we'll be lucky to get a win.

Good assessment.
