In all the games and seasons: I never remember commercial air liners flying directly over. It seemed like every 10 minutes there was another plane coming over us. Seemed unnecessary? Maybe it was an illusion and they weren't overhead but from C Deck by the tunnel they felt like they were right over head despite miles and miles of empty airspace they could have been using.

I think also that for a while, planes weren't allowed to fly over the stadium during games. It was after 9/11. And it wasn't until more recently that the planes were allowed over the stadium during games. Most of the time planes coming into Port Columbus land coming in from the East. The wind is blowing from West to East and they want to land/takeoff into the headwind. Occasionally the wind is blowing in the opposite direction, i.e. East to West. This makes them land West to East and that landing pattern could put the planes over Ohio State, etc.
P.S. Just be careful and watch out for "blue ice"..........![]()
You still see it, but they are farther away and usually only for the "big" games anymore.I think also that for a while, planes weren't allowed to fly over the stadium during games. It was after 9/11. And it wasn't until more recently that the planes were allowed over the stadium during games.
I guess, according to Google AI, they still aren't allowed to be below 3,000 feet within 3 miles of the stadium. Maybe those planes were 3,000 feet up?
Regardless, I'm sure ScriptOhio is right in that it has to do with wind direction.
I remember back in the 80s there'd be planes with the trailing banners flying around the stadium all game long. You don't see that, anymore.
