Ohio people not happy?

Evidently they didn't much checking in Hawaii for them to rate us out here at #2. Traffic is as bad as nearly all metropolitans and housing prices are higher overall than virtually every other area. And while the air quality is excellent to outstanding 90-95% of the time thanks to the tradewinds, there are days where the "vog" from Kīlauea degrade the air quality considerably. Throw in some of the highest costs of living in the entire country and you have a lot of measureables that should seriously impact the overall rating.
I don't think Mili would be happy anywhere

40 through 51 all get a [censored] load of snow and cold except California, which obviously has a ton of problems.

I'm telling you the warm weather makes you feel happy.
Then tell me how Alaska is #11. I've always said that prosperity breeds happiness which doesn't explain how Mississippi is so high on the list.

I was waiting for someone to bring Alaska up. I think most people in Alaska love it because of how unpopulated it is and they probably like all the open wilderness, fishing and nature. Alaska is a unique state.

Compare that to other cold states on the list where there is lots of traffic, lots of people, lots of crime and pollution.

I wonder if there's any correlation between happiness and the amount of time Sarah Palin spends on her book tour in the lower 48.

I lived in Alaska and I have to say that there's a different spirit up there. The rest of the world seems so far away, you feel isolated which can be a good thing. Anchorage, or Los Anchorage as it's referred to, is different. I lived in New York City in two years and I never felt as unsafe or threatened there as I did in parts of Anchorage. There's some seriously nutty whack jobs on the streets there. Some of the crimes that I read about in the paper while living there were downright chilling.
