Ohio Lake/Beach suggestions

Parents are coming to visit, we were thinking about finding a nice lake or (lake erie) beach to spend the day at...

any suggestions of places to go or avoid? We're looking to stay about 2.5 hours within columbus (sandusky & cleveland are within that range).

You may want to head to the NE corner of the state and the Mentor area. That will be the closest to what you and your parents are used to. As a whole it does not even come close to the west MI shoreline.

The first Ohio "beach" that comes to my mind... your parents probably wouldn't be interested in it though:

The Beach :p

The Lake Erie beach we went to growing up was East Harbor State Park just outside of Marblehead... not bad for an Ohio beach.

honestly maybe the hocking hills would be better. they cant be that old and may enjoy the walking/hiking down there. trust me when i say unless you just want to go boating youd be embrassed here in ohio. not saying their arent a few nice places but the dunes/beaches/lakes of sw mi>any water feature in ohio minus mirror lake the third thurs of nov...

Yeah it was more of an idea since we don't get up to the lake anymore, but I think we're going to steer clear. We do enjoy the hocking hills area a lot, but wanted to try something new.

I think we may try The Wilds preserve. We've actually been on a safari, but I'm going to take out my camera gear in hopes of catching some fun pics.

The Wilds is an excellent day trip... I'm sure it won't be quite as exciting as an actual safari but it's pretty cool to see a wildlife conservation area that large in Ohio. They just opened a new section of their preserve dedicated to mid-sized carnivores like African wild dogs and Cheetahs (insert Lloyd Sev joke here).

The one and only time I went to a beach at Lake Erie, they kicked us off so they could rake the beach at like 2pm () and we were bombarded by gnats. I'll stick to the East Coast beaches from now on
