High School Ohio High School Football General Discussion

Does the Columbus City League not play football anymore? Even in my day, Whetstone got some look-sees by the big boys, although cannot remember any players going big. Eastmoor and Linden McKinley had some players, and even the outliers (Gahanna Lincoln) put some players in the MAC. Can anyone clear away the fog? Have seen a couple from Worthington, and Dublin join the Buckeyes, but.....Thanks for letting an expat Ohioan know.

The Columbus City League was way way wayyyyyyy down for a long time. Most of the schools can barely field teams sometimes post-COVID.

The league as a whole isn't as bad this year, but the top end talent is not really there anymore. Now the powers are the 4 Olentangys, both Pickeringtons, Teays Valley in Ashville, Big Walnut, Licking Valley out east of Newark, etc. And, of course, the CCL schools like Watterson and DeSales.

More or less the suburbs took over sometime around the year 2000 and it's not been the same for the city league. OCC is where it's at.

And Archie's brothers.....Big Kat from Westerville (?), couple from Gahanna, and of course the two catholic powerhouses, Watterson and DeSales. Thanks Mike, for the answer. Makes me sad, but it is what it is....

game 1 tomorrow night, sons team isn't returning many starters this year (last years team went 2 weeks into the playoffs) - defense looks pretty damn good (from the 2 scrimmages I saw) - the offense looks like the run game can be good, but the OL is the weak spot for sure. my boy made the shift to middle line backer this season, really looking forward to watching him go hit someone!
