High School Ohio High School Football General Discussion

on paper that sounds horrible, but they have an extremely low schedule, in their 10 game schedule they only play 2 d3 schools and 1 d2 school, the rest are d4 and lower; the AD needs to do a better job at scheduling

I'm not sure where they could go - they're in the Tri-Valley conference which covers most of the region it appears. It's split into two divisions and they're in the 'big school' side and are the only D3 school. There is one D4 and the rest are D5. When the SEOAL disbanded I don't think they had any options, although maybe there is as I'm not super familiar with that regions conference options currently. Since 2015 or so there has been so much change it's hard to keep up with them.

Its virtually impossible to keep track anymore - i talked with the former AD at one of our local schools and they are apparently considering leaving the league and moving to another one, which happened to our league about 6 years ago, caused all kinds of turmoil

They would need to schedule schools like Lancaster or Ironton but they don't typically drive that far. Edit to add: Athens is in one of the most stacked regions out there

As bad as the Columbus City league was 2 years ago its much better this year.

Lots of traditional powers are down and a few with good records are paper tigers too.

Lancaster is only 40 miles from Athens, they just have to schedule better.

OHSAA rules that canceled games now count as forfeit and count as wins/losses. D4 Norton was 8-0 with a canceled game, now drops from #1 to #5 in their region with the canceled game being a forfeit on their side - Glenville picked up another "win" this way as well. - i'm sure there are more, but i just saw these two

I hear you, but it's still not that easy as it takes two to tango and you're also gambling on how a team is going to do. Athens looks like they played their 6 conference foes and then...

* Warren D3
* Logan D2
* Marietta D3
* Paint Valley D6

So 3 of their 4 OOC were their largest division opps. Unfortunately those teams have combined to go 4-32, and it's all about wins (and who your wins beat), so they're not picking up any multiplier points. Like @Mike80 said though, they are in a meat grinder of a region. It's a rarity, and if they win Friday it'll take care of itself as Nelsonville-York is 9-0 so they get their own playoff game before the playoffs.

chiming only to say that Nelsonville-York is the only HS in the state with the nickname Buckeyes. TTFWIW
