That's one of those things that has changed. Watch TV shows or movies set in the 60's. Or even Scrooged with Bill Murray from the late 80's. He had a bar in his office.
Probably a big difference from the head boss nerd and any of his underlings.

When I interned in a Columbus area law office circa 2002, it was still normal for some of the partners to smoke cigars and drink whisky and brandy in their offices.

State laws on indoor smoking have killed off the cigars, but we still have a liquor cabinet.

Having had an office at Ohio U, if having a bottle of booze in it would have been a problem, I would have been in trouble. I’m certain that at least 5-10% of the grad students had a bottle in their desk. I sure as shit did.
