Game Thread Ohio at tOSU, Sat Sep 18, 12 ET, BTN/Overflow

If the Bobcats score this Saturday, I'm gonna be pissed. Ohio State's defense should be giving up 10.33 ppg after this one.

I'll be watching from row 12 section AA on the east side. My daughter will be with me, so if you are in my section, watch your language.

The defense might not give up points... but the special teams will :paranoid:

OU's offense is awful. VERY VERY awful. No running game...a terrible QB. Their O-line is awful. Our defense should have a field day. OU's defense is okay, but probably won't give us too many problems. Maybe if we come out flat, we could end up struggling to score a bunch of points, but I don't see OU scoring any. I think our offense will go out, have fun, and be relaxed. The scoreboard won't be more impressive than our win against Marshall, but watching the actually game we will look more impressive. I think we will have three or four hundred more total yards than OU. OU won't score (not even on special teams).

Ohio State 37
OU 0

Actually I think the score could get out of hand. I figure your are right about the game through about 2.5 quarters, with the above score accurate at that point. But our "clean up" guys are talented and hungry. In the 4th, with KG, TWash, Philly and either Berry or Hall (or both), we will not be finished scoring. JT can call Dave every play, but he can't stop Berry from bouncing it outside.

tOSU 54
Ohio Bobcats 7 (something or other in garbage time).

I think that the "scoring defense" is just an average of points given up. In reality our defense has given up 10 points in 2 games or 5 points per game which is pretty effing good. I'm sure the rankings use 7 and 24 for an average of 15.5 points per game.

Wherever those rankings come from, if they count special teams scores, then they are stupid rankings. This isn't 1927 anymore, most teams have dedicated special teams personnel and those scores shouldn't count against the D. Pick six's should not count as well (nor should blocked field goal tries). If anything, subtract those points from the offensive scoring.

The rankings are official NCAA stats. WE'RE DOOOOOMMMMED.

But seriously, I agree it's stupid because they consider all points surrendered, even when the defense isn't playing. But the bigger story here is stats in general are stupid this early in the season because they don't tell us anything.

The 10 legit points scored on our defense in 2 games would have us tied for 4th in the nation (with Arkansas and Cal). Alabama is currently #1 (two FG's in two games), who technically would be tied with Arizona, because they gave up a safety to Toledo (how in the flying fuck did you manage that, Wildcats?!).

I also like their historical ignorance in attempting to use Ohio A&M as an insult when their institution lobbied, begged, pleaded and did everything short of offering to toss Rutherford B. Hayes' salad for the honor of being designated as Ohio's land grant university but were rudely rejected by the Governor, legislature and business leadership of the day as an unworthy craphole of a college that had done next to nothing in its first sixty years of existence towards providing the state of Ohio with a proper public flagship university. They went to the trouble and expense--making them completely unique among Great Lakes states--of founding an entirely new university to fulfill this role rather than taking the chance that the existing school would eff it up.

Here's something for them to think about. If their school hadn't been such a freakin' joke, Ohio State would never have been created.

Ohio U....were passed over.

If somebody had told me that a post in this thread had a reference to tossing Rutherford B. Hayes' salad, I woul've been able to name that poster in one guess.

Hey Fungo Piney, where are your seats?

South stands... that's all I know. I should get them in the mail either today or tomorrow and let you know.

Well this is the first game I will go to as an OU alumni. Should be interesting as it will also be the first time I go into the shoe wearing colors other than Scarlet and Grey.

As for those people on the OU message boards I have two responses. First, I had no idea we even had our own message board! Second, I can assure you that most students down there do not have a problem with OSU. In fact most actually root for the bucks. It is mostly faculty members who hate Ohio State. Thier complaints got old quickly.

I was tempted to call for the upset this weekend, but common sense prevailed in the end... OU 21, OSU 17

Have to correct your history there.

Thank god there was never an American Western University :p

While AWU was potentially the name for Ohio University, it never opened with that name. It was RE-charted as Ohio University and thus why we claim 1804 as the establishment date versus 1802 that would have been AWU. :sneaky:

And ORD... stop your lies... it was a conspiracy I tell ya! Hayes knew there would be a coach that came around later with his name, so he wanted to piggyback onto that name.

Piney, don't mean to get into minutiae here, but, like you said it was originally chartered as AWU and was RE-chartered as Ohio U. Just because they did not physically open under the original name, does not mean they were never considered by a different name. AND, just because they claim 1804 instead of 1802 doesn't change the fact it was RE-chartered, hence the RE-naming.

Either way, Halloween was a blast the few times I visited AWU while I was going to Ohio A&M.
