Camped this summer. Got an offer, but down the board. OSU *could* land him, but seems likely that other schools (LSU, ND) will value him more than OSU and give him higher financial offers.

The days of the "hometown discount" are over. OSU has stated they will pay big money for 1 WR, NOT 2, and it doesn't matter where you're from. OSU in 2028 got their #1 WR in Harrison, so they don't care if they miss out on McMullen, and they're not getting into a bidding war. The only way that would change is if Harrison were to decommit. And idk if anyone wants that to happen

Has anyone else noticed that Cincinnati schools are producing more, and better recruits than Cleveland (and nearby environs), and certainly more than Columbus? And drilling a bit deeper, more recruits from Watterson than the entirety of the Columbus Public Schools? (Could add DeSales in there as well). What sort of secret sauce does Cincy have?

TBH, Cincinnati has always had talent, but OSU hasn't always ventured into Cincinnati. Tressel was known to hardly ever recruit the 513, and Urban and now Day have done their best to close the gap and mend(or even create) the relationships. And there is the issue that many in Cincinnati don't feel like their part of the state, and act like CIncy is part of KY, or aren't big fans of OSU. I'd say ND, UC, UK and Louisville all have just as big of a following down here. There's certainly a little brother mentality down here in regards to the rest of the state. I always joke that you don't enter OH truly until you to Dayton
But the GCL schools(Moeller, St. X, Elder and Lasalle), Princeton, Wyoming, the Lakotas, Anderson and Winton Woods are all serious contenders for state titles in their divisions. But NIL will be thorn in the side, and this is the case throughout the country. Kids aren't staying home just to go to the hometown school(case in point: Mr. McMullen). But on the bright side, its worked in OSU's favor with a number of southern recruits.

Am certainly old enough to remember that of which you speak. Also recollect that the catholic schools in Cincy had a pipeline to ND. 'Don't bother recruiting them, they're going to ND'. Never did understand, unless Cincinnati was jealous that Columbus, (by all accounts less cosmopolitan than C'bus) got all the pub. Really never understood (and still don't). Especially since UC was not even in the same galaxy as tOSU. That being said, tOSU did pull some great players out of there, who donned the Scarlet & Gray. And in truth, green is a more powerful color than S&G, and Black (and whatever). Heck, even remember when ND hired a HC from a Cincy HS, who lasted maybe a week and a half (not really). Still, am still perplexed how Watterson, and Pickerington can put more recruits in tOSU ranks than the entire Columbus Public School system.

Well, tbh Gerry Faust has a lot to do with the Cincinnati to ND pipeline(he was a successful HSFB coach at Moeller prior to coaching ND). UC isn't in the same stratosphere as OSU, but Cincinnati is essentially between Lexington/Louisville and Columbus. But the local tv for years aired UK and UL and not OSU, same with local radio stations. So its almost instilled in you here. I moved to OH in Middle school from New York, so I didn't even have much frame of reference for CFB. And the first time I saw Eddie George run the football I was hooked. UC is more of a bandwagon team down here, the fans are loud only when they're winning(i.e. the eras of Brian Kelly, Butch Jones and Luke Fickell)
