Just watched his sophomore film and I can see the intrigue. To say Luka is a willing blocker is an understatement, kid gets after it up front to the point that if he really fills out that 6'7 frame I could see OT in his future. That said, he is a very fluid route runner that gets out of his breaks and bends his routes extremely well for a kid that big, though the film is pretty limited there.

Probably going to state the obvious here, but he needs to pack on about 40 - 50 pounds of good weight, which is easily doable and really to be expected considering he has two years of HS left and is that tall. The good part is he seems to have great technique blocking and has a vicious attitude, so putting on the right size is the easy part really. Best Buckeye comparison I can think of is Nick Vannett, with perhaps a bit more upside. Regardless of comparisons, I can see why he got an early offer.

The 2025 four-star tight end from West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West has not hidden his high level of interest in Ohio State recently - wearing Ohio State gloves at the NextGen Five-Star Pro Day recently and really talking highly about the Buckeyes often. If Ohio State makes a major move for the in-state tight end then it would be shocking if Gilbert didn’t end up in Columbus but other high-profile schools have offered as well.

He is a guy you just get in and figure it out, but as good as he looks at TE I think his future is at OT ala Reid Fragel. If he winds up at his current height and about 260 lbs, maybe he stays at TE. But I see future OT with Luka.
He’ll be dangerous in a tackle eligible play. FWIW, when I saw his measurements, I thought of Fragel immediately too.
