Too soon old, too late smart
Kinda wonder if NOT going after a top OT is a great plan, but see tOSU getting in on some 'high' 4* kids, planning on developing them to become elite. Given that that big kid from Rice finished his eligibility on our bench, and Felix Ojo (?) hasn't performed up to snuff, this might be a good strategy. Although do see some of the OTs we've whiffed on starting for their respective teams, don't really hear any accolades. But maybe not tuned in...anyway, does appear that tOSU has some talented individuals, hopefully can meld them into a OL powerhouse. Go Bucks!

The strategy is more of a financial and culture one. Top HS OTs will command TOP dollar, and still could take 2-3yrs to get up to the CFB level. Some might not stay that long, so you pay 7 figures and the kid leaves after 1 or 2 because he's not seeing the field(becuase he's not ready). But you have to play him because he makes so much, which could hurt your team. For all the money that schools like Oregon and Miami paid for their 5star OL, IU won the Natty this year with a bunch of older OL with experience, who cost much less. And by their 5th, 6th, 7th year have as much talent as that HS 5star, and more leadership and maturity. Until a governing body shuts that loophole, I don't see why OSU would for example pay $5mil for a 5star 17yo, when they can pay $800k to a 4th or 5th year transfer that was dominating in college at a slightly smaller school.

Certainly agree that Indiana reset the world of college expectations. Who woulda thunk that kids, mostly from JMU, could come in and beat the best of the college world. I'd love it if someone (else) would do the work to quantify how 5* OL do from HS to pro draft. Probably a Pantoni has had his staff do this, which fomented strategy to save the loot, and maybe 'buy' two 4* OL, and train them up. Probably a higher Return on Investment over the long run.

Its not that a bunch of kids from JMU beat the CFB world. Its that a HC found a loophole that the NCAA was relaxing their age limits. All of us know for the most part an older player will have a better success rate than a younger one. It was great showing the post of the Miami OT that was 6'8 370lbs going up against the IU DL that was like 6'1 290, but it goes back to the family dynamics. Think of being the big brother and your little brother out grows you, you still know ways to beat his arse, regardless of size for the most part

Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
I believe that parents are primarily fleeing to Dublin/Pickerington (and other suburban schools too) for better EDUCATIONAL opportunities (i.e. compared to what Columbus Public Schools offers). The sports opportunities a these schools may just be "icing on the cake".
