2027 OH LB Brayton Feister (Verbal Offer)

Seems like there's a number of long-in-the-tooth members here on BP. Do remember (circa 1955), asking Dad how can we have Hopalong Cassidy in the Buckeye backfield, when I watched him on TV that morning?.....

Way too early for me, but my equivalent was Nathan Williams who played RB at Washington Courthouse and was very good. He ended up at the "Viper" DE/LB spot here, but he was really tough to bring down at RB (speaking from experience having played against him).

On that note, had anyone who has watched him play have any strong convictions that Feister will play offense or defense at the next level?

I have seen him play numerous times. My takeaway was 'this kid is a football player and plays with all heart.. get him on your team and figure out position later".. He's a mauler.. ONLY reason I don't like him at RB is his style.. If he has a chance to break away or hammer into 3 defenders, he goes full bull and looks to make contact.. I worry about health at the college level if he continues that at RB

I never saw the lightning speed but another poster sites that he has almost elite speed.. I've seen more of that speed this year than prior years.. He's note a juker..

What I loved about Eddie George. He had a sense of when to break for the distance and when to put someone on his ass. Dobkins too.

I think his ceiling is higher at defense than offense. He could be a college RB and be successful, but I don't think he could be a RB at OSU. Similar to Steeler Chambers, an above average-good RB but possibly good-great LB or DE.

excellent analogy... Hoban was going to use him primarily as a LB this year but when they couldn't run the ball in the first couple games, they had to put him back into the backfield.. Would love to see what he could do on the edge..

My bad to ruffle feathers about the age. Just thought it’d be interesting information to pass along. And @Ohioborn is correct, Brayton turned 18 in October. And he will graduate at 19. And the info I got originally was from an IG post, but then I saw it being brought up by other parents of kids he wrestles. Glad that Day visited him, but every major OSU analyst has said that both sides have shown little interest in one another. And Feister just visited scUM for The Game. There’s a lot of time until the ‘27 class signs, but as of now Feister is on no one’s list. And I just was wondering why, and my take was the age could be 1 of the issues. Since the worry is he’s closer to his ceiling than say a kid graduating at 17 or 18

Ted Ginn jr graduated at 19 in high school as did hundreds of other buckeyes. Worked out well for us in the past. No one’s list? Over 30 divisions 1 schools have offered including our Buckeyes.

Very much a trend in middle/high. We have had several “held back” in order to gain that experience in age. Yet to see conclusive evidence it’s beneficial. One would think if you do it it’s because your son socially/mentally would benefit. That is not the case I’m seeing….

I would strongly disagree. I’ll provide a small list of successful 19 year old graduates who were 19 their freshman year of college for us at Ohio state.

Ted Ginn Jr. – 1st-round NFL Draft pick
Vernon Gholston – Dominant DE; Top-10 NFL Draft pick
Michael Thomas – All-time Buckeye WR great; NFL All-Pro
Chris “Beanie” Wells – Immediate impact RB; 1st-round NFL Draft pick
Braxton Miller – 2× Big Ten POTY
Dwayne Haskins Jr. – Heisman finalist, OSU records
Jack Sawyer – cornerstone edge defender and national champion; draft pick
Garrett Wilson –NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year
J.T. Tuimoloau – impact DL from day one

Could provide probably dozens more with ample research. From the results of our successful history at OSU, taking as you phrased them “ hold backs” has worked out well.
