Nothing new with Monsanna Torbert per Wiltfong. Michigan still has a clear sizeable NIL offer on the table for him. The path to immediate PT is also available there, as they badly need him (which is why they are offering so much).
Tricky one to get a read on who he will pick tomorrow. The reasons for UM are obvious (what I pointed out above), even though he only visited there once for his OV. But at the same time, we've recruited him for a long time now and he's been on campus at least 4x. His brother (who has an OSU offer) was just on campus multiple times for camp in June too, and Monsanna even came a day early for his OV to watch the camp and hangout with the coaches/players. His brother even took part in his OV pics here. He was just wearing OSU gear at The Opening event last week too. He doesn't seem to hold any kind of grudge that it took us so long to finally offer him. The hard part for us, is that CB is not a big need at all. I can't see us coming anywhere close to being near UM's offer. However, he provides a ton of position flexibility at CB, NB, and S, and Wiltfong thinks he's the best DB in the country. So we shall see...

AG with the prediction for Torbert to Michigan. Respect to our staff for staying grounded in NIL and not going above what we normally would for a guy like him. Curious to see if we will find a late riser this fall or just stick with 2 CBs this cycle.

Unfortunate, as he’s a playmaker, and very much in the Jay Timmons mold. But also, not making an excuse, but curious how much the staff actually loved him. We didn’t offer until less than 3mo ago. To put that in comparison, we offered fellow instate CB Deontay Malone 3mo earlier than we offered Torbert. And it’s not like he just popped up out of nowhere, he’d actually already been on campus multiple times including the summer before. We actually offered a month later than UM did. I think Walt badly wanted Woods and was caught off guard by Tech’s offer. And Carey had long been a favorite of Walt.
Oh well. Similar to last year, we’ll see who Walt wants to flip for the last spot by who he visits during the bye week in Oct, after watching senior film.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if he's a Buckeye. scUM is offering more money and almost immediate PT. DB recruiting is starting to be less towards HS recruits and more of a balance with Portal entries(i.e. Igbinosun, Downs, Styles, Calhoun, Little, Moore and Kelly). I can see Walt flipping someone, and the class having 3 CBs, and then getting another 2+ in the Portal

Extremely well said and exactly how I see this situation. I like Torbert and would have been happy to see him in this class. But given our needs in this class and allocation of NIL $ that needs to go to the trenches (and looks like it is), we don't need to get crazy weight NIL here. And if he picks scUM for that, I'm not sweating it. To not sound like sour grapes, I do really like his game and think he'll be a fine player at the next level. Just saying he's not a break the bank guy for NIL.

Agree 100%.

The 5 years to play 5 is also part of this equation. Why give someone who is two years away from seeing the field a boatload of money that could be allocated to Jermaine Mathews for next year?
