2026 OH CB Elbert Hill (USC Verbal)

Having gone from snowy C'bus to sunny LA, diving into a swim pool in December, surfacing and picking a grapefruit overhanging the pool, yeah I get that. That was the set-up my soon-to-be inlaws used to get me to California. Then on to the Rose Bowl, to watch tOSU beat up USC and OJ. Got shown a great time, driving up the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway), towards Malibu, and having seafood overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean. And that's without the USC song girls in their tight sweaters and lipstick making you feel like 'the guy'. Can definitely see the pull.
No doubt me too. It will genuinely be interesting to see what happens when USC falls apart this year though.

Our minister is a Trojan grad/legacy. When Riley signed on with the Boys of Troy, his son told me that he wept. That being said, find it hard to believe that Riley's magic runs out this year. Could be, but other than a resurrection of Saban, who would be the replacement. Same thing to be said of Day when the wolves were howling for his head last year. I get that playing a B10 schedule v a Pac10 one hasn't been kind to USC, but there's still enough HS talent within a ten-mile radius of the campus to field a national champion each and every year. (let alone in California). Still believe they'll do better this year, and maybe play the role of spoiler. AND, they'll be a big draw wherever they go. More good than bad, am thinking.

Agree on who would they find, but the same was said after they canned Sark. There will always be names, especially to a program who wants to win, and expects to win as bad as the Trojans do. Riley was warned of the expectations when he signed that massive deal. He was expected to recruit and win at the level of ol Pete, and he's not even close to that. He's closer to Lane Kiffin as far as the status of the program right now, and throwing money at recruits will leave you, well look at aTm and Miami...

Took a second for a breath of fresh air to comment. This one stings for sure, we can't lose the top guy in Ohio that is this talented that was almost a lock not long ago. Hopefully there is a chance for a flip, most of last year's DB class are likely safeties apart from Sanchez.

I'm not sure why "Ohio" matters any more. CFB is NFL Lite. NFL teams don't hire local talent just because they're local. Why should CFB teams care where their players come from?
I think it is important to have a good nucleus of Ohio recruits that grew up knowing what OSU football means. And in this instance, Hill is the #1 CB in the country, so there isn't an equivalent talent nationwide. I feel like Ohio kids get it more, but you absolutely take the national guy if they are better. More than anything, losing the state's #1 recruit to USC feels like getting robbed.

I think I would have to agree with @LordJeffBuck . Losing an OH recruit isn't as big of a deal, no matter their ranking. OSU is handling NIL in an amazing way. And imo teams no longer "miss" on recruits due to the Portal. And OSU is now more than ever recruiting at a very high national level. OSU is landing top players from CA, TX and FL along with AL and even LA now.
I do agree to a point that having a nucleus of OH recruits helps, but its no longer needed. I'd say the leader of the team for the NC was the QB from PA, along with the WR from WA. And the defense was led partially by a DL from OH, but also a LB from CA, CB from AZ and S from GA. The days of worrying about keeping a bulk of OH recruits home is pretty much dead, and will be cyclical depending on the talent, relationships, and kids willing to take the NIL deals that OSU is offering knowing they could be missing out on money on the front end from other schools.

You are probably going to steer the bleed SNG, special powers types to a MAC school so they can move up to OSU if they develop enough in the near future.

Meanwhile those 20-30 spots that rotate open every year at the big club will go to best national talent that fits the program or transfers that fit.

It’s going to be a different world for HS kids I feel like.

This level of recruitment is both why Ohio State won a National championship, and also why Ohio State has lost to TTUN 4 years in a row. This particular recruit helps with both, and devaluing this commitment to USC is absurd in my opinion. Elbert has to be at Ohio State. Losing him is terrible, and I know it’s not over but the initial commitment is awful. Ohio state needs kids from Ohio, and especially elite kids from Ohio

I get it. But no. And this isn't the forum to discuss this. Kids that want to be here, will be here. Elite rankings don't mean entitled. Work for that goal.

And so we said when we lost two 5* Ohio kids to Oregon last year. The element of professionalism versus rah-rah seems to be winning out. Am interested how the 'feeling of brotherhood' shines out at tOSU (and other places certainly), for a HT recruit. I am too philosophically shallow to be able to discuss the pros and cons of the above, but certainly don't want to see the game descend into the put in the time, and after practice, go your own way. Would bet all of us have worked places, where people rush out the door at 5:00pm, and don't mingle after work etc. Am hoping that the helping out of another person at the position still counts, rather than the pros, where helping someone else out (learn position etc) would be helping them take your position and paycheck.
