Official Opt-Out Thread 2021-2022 Bowl Season

It's basically a "dead period" for college football; unless of course your team is hiring/firing some defensive coaches. To possibly generate some discussion here, anybody have any comments on this:

Jameson Williams is projected as a 1st round pick. Kiper says he is the 6th best prospect. OK, let's say he is/was. Using Alabama WRs drafted in 2021 as examples: Last year Jaylen Waddle was picked 6th and got a $27M contract. Let's say because of the injury he falls to 10th. Last year DeVonta Smith was drafted 10th and got a $20M contract. That's a difference of $7M over the 4 years of the contract and it would be a heck of a lot more if he fell even lower.

Georgia and Alabama’s best should have skipped the national title game | Opinion

For the player there is no discernible difference between the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl and the College Football Playoff national championship game.

To the college player who plans to play in the NFL, he should treat the TaxAct Camellia Bowl the same as the Rose Bowl.

They’re the same.

On Monday night, Alabama played Georgia in the college football title game that featured every single big name player available on both rosters. Future NFL players were all over that field in Indianapolis, but they should have stayed safe on the sidelines.

In the first half, Alabama’s top receiver, Jameson Williams, suffered an apparent knee injury when he landed awkwardly after a catch. He was taken to the locker room shortly after he left the field.

The day after the game, ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter reported that Williams suffered a torn ACL.

“Doctors believe that, after surgery within the next 10 days, Williams will retain his sub 4.3 speed, and they expect a full recovery,” Schefter wrote. The BCS Plus 2 Football Tournament is college football’s last safe zone, when it should be just as vulnerable.

Even had Wiliams, the projected No. 1 receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft, played, what was he going to gain?

For discussion purposes. Do you think that Jameson Williams should have opted out of the "CFPs to prepare for the draft"? If he did, what do you think that the reaction would be from Saban, other team members, the media, and Alabama fans?

The media would have had his head and I'm not even talking Birmingham media. They may have tried to go back to 1843. Following this author's thought process, the NIL dealers better have some language in there saying you will play in bowl/playoff game or forfiet money. And the players better have some bonus money in their contract if they make the CFP or NY6 games.

I agree. It makes sense for the NIL dealers to a have financial incentive for the player to complete the season/bowl game. It could be something similar to what I believe some have now with a void the contract clause if the player transfers to another school, etc.

In addition, the bowls should provide these players with an insurance policy for loss of potential NFL income due to an injury in their bowl game.
