Official "Going to the Game" Thread

Just got back at 1:00 am this morning after driving straight back. With a couple of exceptions, we had a great experience down there. It was truly better than I expected. As I stood on at the Ernst Cafe during a huge Buckeye party, I couldn't help but wonder how many BP'ers were within 20 yards of me.

All in all, I found most LSU fans to be pretty classy.

It has to be the worst tailgating city in the United States.

The Dome is in a horrible spot for large scale tailgating. It's a bitch to get to and from the Dome on I-10, and there really isn't any large enough parking area to get a true tailgate going. So you're left with everyone walking the streets to go bar hopping.

That being said, as shitty as the Saints have been throughout their history, they have never lacked the finacial support of the fans. The big problem is that there aren't enough big time corporate sponsors in the New Orleans area to keep up with other franchises.

I returned home from NOLA late last night. I am surprised to see so many negative comments about LSU fans. We saw a couple that were a little over the top, but all-in-all, the LSU fans were great, before, during and after the game.

A few comments after getting back from NO and the game:

- Do All SEC teams have the same cheers?
"Gator/Tiger Bait"
(band plays little tune) "GO GATORS/TIGERS!" (band plays little tune) "GO GATORS/TIGERS!"

- Anyone know where to find the name of the stadium announcer? I could swear he was LSU's announcer. If not, he surely was not the least bit unbiased. I was at times almost expecting "BOO YAAAAA FIRST DOWN HESTER!"

- The design and entrance into the superdome is HORRIBLE. Buckeye fans were trying to get to their gate (G) past another gate (A) and were stuck in fan traffic for 30 minutes plus just a few feet from the stadium. I ended up going down to the street level to get in and had no crowd.

- All my experience with LSU fans was very much positive. A few rotten apples who didn't know any other words than drunken "Tiger Bait" calls, but really, not that bad. Most were very very friendly.

I heard his voice (on TV) pretty clearly while LSU's band was performing. If that's the guy that announced the entire game, his name is Dan Borne, and he IS the announcer at Tiger Stadium (and has been for about as long as I can remember).

For the Sugar Bowl last year, the announcer was the guy that does the Saints games (don't know his name though).

We returned last night... a few comments:

1. New Orleans ranks right up there with Vegas in regards to being a "part town"... we had a blast in the city!!

2. Abita beer is a bit tart... I like Sam Adams and Bass... Abita isn't anything near a nice lager...

3. The Folks of New Orleans are very nice.

4. The fans of LSU are good folks before the game.

5. The fans of LSU are A$$ Holes after they win (I'm still surprised a couple of drunk OSU fans didn't "drop" a few really bad Tiger fans after the loss during the walk back down Poydras (sp?).

6. Good Eat's at every corner.... I don't think you can eat "bad" food in the city...

7. The "ramp" to enter the SuperDome is a bottle neck... whoever created one ramp needs to be shot... little kids were trampled left and right...

8. I'd go back in a heart beat...

Wow you nailed on two points I was thinking while at the game. The first one I was expecting LSU fans to start a chant "ITS Great to be an LSU Tiger, Its Great to be an LSU tiger" On the second point I swear the announcer mispronounced laurinTITous on purpose yea because it Laurinaitis looks so much like LaurinTITous. Good call on your observations!!!

LOL. And that S-E-C chant was not just a UF thing in Arizona. We all do that in our bowl games to support each other and pimp our conference....just in case a meteor takes out the ESPN Studio and they can't pimp us.:tongue2:

Nah, oddly enough I believe you played the only two teams in the SEC that use the "bait" chant. Bad luck for you there I guess :wink2:

The Geaux Tigers cheer is the 1st down cheer and I can imagine you'd get sick of it having heard it more times than you probably would have liked during the game.:grr:
