Official "Going to the Game" Thread

Honestly, absent a Galatoire's reservation, there is very little reason for LSU fans to ever go to Bourbon Street - let alone on a Sunday night.

You'll see some folks tomorrow.

Exactly, wait around till before kickoff and the numbers will shift. So pumped about this game, hope everyone stays safe!

Just got back to hotel room. Totally frustrated! Missed tackles, blown coverages, turnovers, personal fouls. I heard an announcer on XM say that we beat ourselves more then LSU. Just damn!

Anyway, about my experience in New Orleans. I have been to Clemson, Kentucky, UGA, Florida, Florida State, Purdue, Indiana, Alabama, Auburn, and several small school football games, and without a doubt, the LSU fans were the worst. I know that LSU fans will say that there are always a few bad apples, but there were A LOT of bad apples. Everything was good until about 1:00 PM, after the LSU fans had a few drinks. There I am with my 12 year old son, and grown ups, teens, and college kids getting right in our face while we are walking down the street. Anything from 'Tiger bait' to 'you suck' to a grown woman asking my son where are his nuts! And this was not just a few people, I would say at least half the fans we passed had something to say to us. A little advise LSU fans, after you sober up, go get some class! I told one guy to act like he has been there before, and he almost came out of his shoes! He was THINKING of saying something else until a few HUGE buckeye fans showed up.

This was my last visit to New Orleans. I was not impressed.

I've seen New Orleans bring out the worst. I saw it with Florida State fans in 99 and our own the year after against A&M. We have plenty of arogant, drunk fans too. Sorry you had to have your 12 year old son deal with it, that'snot right. Fuck the bad apples. I have pretty good size to myself...so I haven't had to deal with too much nasty jousting.

I am so sorry to hear that. I just found this site because I wanted to find a place to thank your fans. I live in Baton Rouge, about an hour away and grew going down to New Orleans. I didn't go to the game but went down to NO Saturday and Saturday night. The LSU fans came down in droves after that, but there were enough to make it fun. Anyway, we met alot of Ohio fans and everyone was so nice. We had a blast.

I do have to say that Bourbon St (just as a previous poster stated) can bring out the worst in any fan base, especially one that feels at home here. If you played LSU back in Baton Rouge you would experience something totally different. You'd be invited over to tailgate spots as you pass by to try the Gumbo or Jambalaya. That's the majority of LSU fans.

My friends that have made the drive back home this morning said that the Ohio fans they met were all saying that LSU fans were the nicest they'd come across. On Bourbon St, you're definitely open to experiencing many different types of people, from fantastic to horrible. That's the way it's always been and always will be I guess.

It's a shame that some jerks always have to surface, and I just hate that they left such a bad impression. On the other hand, I had a fantastic time and met some great folks from Ohio State.

I wasn't there, but it's clear from hearing many experiences over the years that the majority of college football fans from any team are great people. There are always a few idiots and they tend to make themselves known, but hopefully nobody judges a fanbase merely from their worst representatives. We've had some of the best of LSU visiting here for this game, and hope our new members stick around to continue talking football in the future. :)

Dude, I am truly sorry that this was your experience. Especially in front of a child. Bourbon St is not exactly a family atmosphere (especially with 2 opposing fan bases there). Please do not use this as a reflection of our school, or our city.

Exactly. When the game was at 10-0 some Big - and I mean big Buck fan stood at the railing at the section gate with his buddy, blocking the view of the game for a bunch of people next to me, myself included. The guy in back of me said "Hey - get out of the way and sit in your seat, we can't see the field!"

The Buck fan turned around and yelled at him to "F- off", and turned to keep watching the game. The usher then asked them to move. He told the usher "I'm not moving." More people said "move, we can't see". He replied with more "F Us"..... As a fight was about to break out because the guy behind me wanted to kick his ass (I predicted the Buck would win....he was huge:tongue2:), an officer was approaching our area from the next gate, so the buck fan ducked back inside the gate entrance and we never saw him again.

While one of the biggest a-holes I saw that night was a Buckeye, it was not my only experience, and I interacted with some great fans from tOSU.

If I wanted to let one event color my perception I would be making a huuuuuge mistake.

Was this on Bourbon St, because if so, what exactly did you expect to encounter? Intellectual breakdowns of the strengths and weaknesses of each team? Playful taunting is a part of a college gameday experience.

I enjoyed the LSU fans a great deal more than I did Florida last year, both who triumph the real assholes over at USC. (I went to the Nebraska/USC game and some of the things done and said by the USC kids were horrible - much worse than "tiger bait" and "you suck")

No, this was across the street from the Superdome. We parked at the New Orleans Centre, and walked up the street. Right at the corner of Poydras Street there was a place called the Caddy Car Cafe, or something like that. A friend of ours was working there.

I did not take my son to Bourbon Street, we went down St. Peters to Decatur Street, and we had enough. I was trying to get to the Buckeyes headquarters, but I couldn't make it. I am not a small person myself, and I was getting close to getting into a bunch of trouble.

And believe me, I have been to games in Gainesville on a Saturday night for a UF game, and I have seen some bad things. I was just hoping that when a grown up, mature person sees a grown man with his son walking down the street, they would exercise a little restraint. I don't mind the banter that comes with college games, but have a little respect for the younger ones. Maybe we need to send them to look for Bin Laden. I think al Queda would be so pissed off, they would give them Bin Laden on a platter just to get away from the LSU fans!

I'm kind of surprised so many people had bad experiences. In large part the Tiger fans I dealt with were pretty cool (unlike the Florida fans last year). I was even stuck in an LSU fan section and I got no abuse whatsoever. Even when I left the game many Tiger fans said that we had a good team. As much as I'd love to hate on LSU nation, I can't. I hope we did help out New Orleans a little bit though, although I doubt I would ever go back there. I understand why the NFL wanted to pull the Saints out of there pre-Katrina. It has to be the worst tailgating city in the United States. However, I did enjoy the free parking at the parking garage across the street from the Superdome.
