On this afternoon's show on Sports Radio 66 here in New York City Digger Phelps was asked which teams could make it to the final four... he said Villanova, U Conn, Texas and Ohio State. When asked if he had to pick one team to win it all which one would it be... to the east coast basketball biased host's (Mike Francessa) suprise he said OSU. He cited the outstanding play of our guards, the force Dials has become in the middle, our toughness and Thad Matta as coach as seperating us from the pack. It felt good to get some love out here.

It is nice to get some love, but to be honest, I would love to go in to the tourney on a roll with some teams overlooking us. If nobady gives us love, I think we would do well to creat it for ourselves. I see us as a Final Four contender, and after that, anything can happen....

I'm liking our chances more with each game. They showed some real grit out there today coming back on an inspired PSU team. The thing that really concerns me is how we'll fair against the teams with a considerable size advantage, or if TDials gets into foul trouble.

Let the cards fall...
It's nice to get some love from the national press, but I would rather be an underdog than a favorite. It lowers the pressure on our team, and I think they play their best basketball as an underdog.

I have the same concerns. There is no doubt that we can spread the D to get the ball in to Dials, the question is, will he be there EVERY game to get the ball to. If we face a team that has 2 really good big men, and we take a while to warm up, that could spell trouble. Having said that, I have been impressed all year by our ability to be down and still be patient. With the ability to shoot from outside, we have never really been "out" of a game. Take this in to consideration, In our 4 losses, none have been by more than 5 points. The total of points that we have lost by in those games is 17. An average of a little over 4 a game. We were never out of ANY of those games. This team will not give up, Period. This is why we will be a strong team heading in to the tournament. On a givin day, we could beat anyone in the country.

Depth inside bothers me. Tournament play is tough, and guys wear down. Hopefully, Twigs will have a very speedy recovery, but that could be a factor also.

I think he will be if we make the finals, over memphis.

Basically said it could go either way with us and Memphis, assuming we win the Big 10 tournament.
Digger felt like we would be better of a #2, and that is what he'd want if he was a coach.
Jay said you want to be a #1 no matter what, it's what the kids want.
They did bring up an interesting point. They said the committe might do what they did a few years ago when it was close for the last #1 between St. Joes and Ok. State and they just put them in the same bracket and if they got far enough they'd settle it on the floor.
Bilas said he'd pick us to beat Memphis though......
