Official 2006 Big Ten Tournament Discussion Thread

Mike Davis is an embarrassment as a head coach. Wisky missed the front end of a 1 and 1, but IU was called for lane violation. Davis proceeded to put his head in his lap and stayed like that for the next minute. If you're an IU player and you see your coach act like this , what are going to think? It's a joke. He doesn't deserve to coach for any D1 school the rest of his career.

Although I'm not a Davis fan, I think you're going way overboard here tibs.

I do NOT wanna play Indiana.......
I'd much rather play indiana than wisky personally... screw the home court advantage, I don't think we match up as well against Wisky. Tucker vs Sylvester (who can't be 100%) sounds like trouble.
With Twigs out of the Big 10 Tournment, i'd MUCH rather play Wisconsin. Killingsworth is too much of a risk of getting Dials in foul trouble to want to play them.
if DJ White were active, I might agree with you. Without him, I'd much rather face Killingsworth (who is streaky in his play), than Butch and Tucker.

overboard? probably. However, I think his general observations are spot on. IU never treated him well, but in return, he never handled himself well in return. There's a reason he was near (or at) the top of the list for 'least favorite coaches' (big ten survey of players).

I would prefer IU as well, I don't like Wiscy's size against our style of play. The one thing that woories be about IU is that they are basically playing for Mike Davis, who a lot of the players love. They want to send him out in style. I don't know if it's been said enough how much Jamar Butler has stepped up these past few weeks.

that's the way he always acts. Remmeber when Duke and Jason Williams (I that's who it was) almost got the 4 point play against IU in the ncaa tournament? He looked like he was going to cry. It's not surprising his teams have underachived the last several years.

I agree with you, but I do think he deserves a chance to coach D1 basketball.

I feel he and Indiana were not a good fit.

Following Legends

:osu3: Can anyone out there remember when a coach following a legend was successful? The guy that followed John Wooden? The guy that followed Woody Hayes? Et cetera. I cannot remember one that was successful either, so it's no wonder that Mike Davis failed after replacing Bobby Knight. The inevitable comparisons to 'the way it was' means that everyone quickly forgets the tossed chairs, but remembers the perfect season and the NCAA championships. Plus, it's harder to put in your 'own program' especially when you were an assistant coach in the 'old system'.

The previous posts are right, he's not for IU, but hey, no one else would have been either. Now that there has been the inevitable letdown, then someone can come in and rebuild. Whether IU can get back to national prominence quickly remains to be seen. If Matta had gotten the job, then yeah, pretty quickly, but thank goodness he's got to stay here. (Can anyone imagine a more grim scenario than the NCAA keeping us from post-season next year, having next year's freshmen back out of their LOI's, and Matta and all four of them go to IU?) Makes my stomach churn just thinking that thought.

On the NCAA brackets. I thought that the 'bracketeers' tried to balance out the regions with strength. Yes, the #1's got to stay in their region, or be a #2 in a close region. Since B-ball is east coast dominant, someone is going to have to collect frequent flyer miles heading west. Wouldn't want to see Connecticut, Duke, etc. all in the East regional.

Anyone have more solid info than this? Would really like to know. I thought it was more an art than a science........

:oh: :io:
