Offers, scout rankings and comits...

Folanator

Brawndo's got electrolytes...
I did not know where to post this but there was an interesting post by Bevaos on Scout. If you look at the scout rankings, and who tOSU has a verbal, it is extraordinary this year. Assuming we get Hall, Boyd and Hall (not a huge stretch) we have landed virtually the highest rated player they have offered.

I thought it was interesting on how special this class is. Do you realize that OSU has landed their "top" recruit in almost every position?

Boyd is the highest ranked QB we offered........Buckeye? (looking good)

Berry is the highest ranked RB we offered........Buckeye

Hyde is the highest ranked FB we offered........Buckeye

Brown is the highest ranked WR we offered.....Buckeye? (hopefully

)

Hall is the highest ranked OT we offered..........Buckeye

Linsley is the 2nd highest ranked OG we offered....Buckeye

we did not offer a center

Simon is the highest ranked DT we offered.........Buckeye

Fellows is the highest ranked DE we offered.......Buckeye

Whiting is the highest ranked MLB we offered....Buckeye

Klein is the highest ranked SLB we offered........Buckeye

Bell is the highest ranked WLB we offered.........Buckeye

Wood is the highest ranked S we offered...........Buckeye

Brown is the highest ranked CB we offered........Buckeye

The best way to describe the OSU recruiting right now is efficient.

Scout has Simon ranked really high and Rivals has him at #39. Corey Adams is ranked 1 spot below Simon on Scout and Rivals has Corey 30 spots ahead of Simon. I would guess that Adams is better than Simon based on both sites having Adams consistently a top 10 recruit at DT.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the way the recruiting sites treat Simon. They've been all over the place with him. The truth is the dude's a beast.

Calling a kid "better" based on his Scout/Rivals rankings? That is really reaching...

I'm not saying Simon isn't good. The original poster said he was the top rated DT tOSU offered. I made a pretty simple point that another site has him rated lower than Adams and if this thread was based off of "Scout rankings," then why should I be scolded for using another sites rankings.

if you got dinged, I'd say it was probably unjustified...but to use scout or rivals rankings to determine a players worth is a bit silly.

Our two All-Americans this year were 3 star players (Malcolm Jenkins, and James Laurinitis).

I know Folonator used rankings, but I think the larger point he was making is that the guys we offer, typically commit.

Understand. I did not look at the other sites. I just thought it was an interesting way of looking at the efficiency of the OSU staff right now.

They do not seem to be trolling for kids that they do not have a shot at.

The tend to get their targets.

This type of "rifle" recruiting has gotten Tress in some trouble in the past back in the day when people said he could not close. But it sure as hell looks like they have it down to a science now. They target a kid that they want and has interest. They pull out all the stops and get him still keeping a soft sell aproach. Amazing and frankly I am not sure how they are doing it. It's more a tribute to Tressel and his staff more than anything.

Lots of truth in these last 3 sentences. I feel the staff has certaintly got more aggressive down the stretch and it's paying dividends imo. However, they still keep their cool, soft sell approach. I can't believe we are in such good shape for Marlon Brown and Tajh Boyd. Brown I thought would be impossible to get initially and I have him near the top of my list of national recruits, interested in us or not. We have done an excellent job of pulling all the stops on a guy I originally thought we had little to no chance on. Boyd is just a heads up move by the staff.

By getting so many early commitments, it allows the staff to spend alot of time on the remaining few spots. It also allows for the staff to get an early start on next years class. This is a good plan. Efficient indeed.

I think the recruiting style is pretty obvious. Get the majority of studs from Ohio, steal 2-3 top ten players from Michigan and PA, and then get 3-5 badasses from Florida. If we continue to do this we are gonna dominate the conference. I would also like to add the OL and DL recruiting in 08 and 09 has been awesome. Tressel owns the Midwest recruiting scene right now.
