With former cornerbacks coach (and co-defensive coordinator) Everett Withers having departed to take on the challenge of preparing James Madison University for a possible transition to FBS football and bringing many of Ohio State's support staff and graduate assistants along with him, the 2014 Buckeyes staff has added a GA to help replace them.

Cody Hawkins, the son of Dan "intramurals, brother" Hawkins, the former Boise State and Colorado head coach, is expected to join the Buckeyes as an offensive graduate assistant. On Urban Meyer, Hawkins told KTVB in Boise's Jay Tust "He's very passionate about what he does; he's a great guy...Very straight to the point."

Hawkins' playing career was marred by quarterback controversy as he struggled to hang on to the starting quarterback role as Colorado Buffaloes QB much of his final two seasons in Boulder. He did help lead CU to the 2007 Independence Bowl where they lost to Alabama and then first year Tide head coach, Nick Saban.

Scott Kennedy said it best...Hawkins was limited physically and got by on smarts and grit...perfect for a coach.

In his genes: Cody Hawkins takes football coaching job at Ohio State

Cody Hawkins' mom always thought he'd end up as a football coach.

Mom always knows best.

Cody, the son of former Boise State and Colorado coach Dan Hawkins, began his college coaching career Monday as a graduate assistant at Ohio State. Hawkins was working for Nike before accepting an offer on Thursday from Ohio State and coach Urban Meyer.

"I did not have a whole lot of time to think. I didn't need to," said Hawkins, who played at Bishop Kelly and Colorado.

Hawkins will be working with offensive skill players, including quarterbacks and wide receivers. The Buckeyes, who played in the Orange Bowl earlier this month, are led by quarterback Braxton Miller.

"When he comes off, you hand him a bottle of water and a towel," Hawkins said of Miller. "He's a great talent. I'm sure Im going to learn a ton from him. He definitely doesn't need my help."

Hawkins is in Columbus to learn — and to help wherever he can.

"I'm excited to get my hands dirty," Hawkins said.

Sweden has a professional American football league?....who knew???
There's "professional" American football throughout Europe. Below is a photo I took of the window of a sports bar in Bratislava last summer. On April 20, the Bratislava Monarchs had strapped 'em up against the Budapest Hurricanes.

The players get paid diddly-squat in most of these leagues, as you can figure out from the 3-euro admission charge.
