I have a nominee, but lv might swear at meI think you’re right. Problem is. Who? So many choices
@Bestbuck36I have a nominee, but lv might swear at me
I think it's the opposite. As I said last night, the 12 and 13 formations we're seeing are very prevalent in the NFL. Just watch any NFL game - hell the Denver/KC game on the last play of the game had 3 tight ends in the formation. Some of the weird play calls are pure NFL nonsense too. Which leads me too....This is why I think Day is still involved in the offense. It's the same maddening shit as before but with a different OC. Though pairing the maddening shit current version Day thinks works but doesn't with Smiths boner for TEs is a perfect disaster
Look at Hartline's background. He was a Tressel guy and then an NFL guy. So to answer your question, yes, it looked a lot like Bollman's offense with some NFL multi-TE formation tint to it.Hartline didn’t really have an offensive philosophy/style did he? It looked more like a slow ass version of Bollemans O. And all those cool plays that looked great running in shorts or even in pads against theses lines, probably had to be chucked out the window when they reallized the OL can’t block and the DL is the worst it’s been in I don’t know how long

His offensive philosophy was very similar to what we're seeing from Arthur Smith with the multi-TE formations. It really started in 2023 and they went away from it almost entirely in 2024 when Chip Kelly was here. Then last year and this year we're back to 12 and 13 formations.
Haha looks good to me!@Bestbuck36
Check the avatar. I’ve made my statement to the football gods as one of BPs founding fringe lunatics
I don't think the offense needs a come to Jesus moment as much as the special teams and defense need it....the obsession with tight ends isn't going to change until there's a new OC which isn't going to happen unless Smith resigns, and that's not happening. When they do get a new OC, that OC needs to be more college-focused like Day was when he showed up, and like how Kevin Wilson was when he was Days' first OC.Well the ultimate conclusion is that Day needs to have a coming to Jesus moment (again) and see that the schemes on both sides of the ball just aren't working. It's pure insanity to keep running the same failed concepts over and over. Unfortunately it would probably take another player uprising to maybe even get him to stand up and demand change.

Day also needs to accept the fact. In college it’s very tough to win without a QB who can at least scramble for yards here and there. It’s clear that way coached out of then back into Sayin. Fahey had so many chances late to scramble for yards but he kept holding looking for the big play when the directive for a true frosh QB should have been 2 reads then tuck and goI don't think the offense needs a come to Jesus moment as much as the special teams and defense need it....the obsession with tight ends isn't going to change until there's a new OC which isn't going to happen unless Smith resigns, and that's not happening. Until then, I think Day needs instead to have them focus on execution within the scheme. That's the reality now.
This is what Art is man....that's the reality. This is what his offenses looked like in the NFL.Re: Hartline
The first few games this year at USF they were going apeshit in the press because his Offenses were awful. He has turned it around though and they are winning so that has died down. But still they're only about 300ypg and not very explosive. People thought because he was a great WR coach and phenomenal recruiter that he'd be able to just carry that to a whole Offense or whole staff. Doesn't work that way, at least not yet.
Art has had plenty of time to get it right. We're still waiting
His problem at USF. He had a growth. They called it OC Tim Beck. He’s been known to do that to offensives.Re: Hartline

I remember a time we were clowning on a certain QB up north for that.Day also needs to accept the fact. That's a fair statement. But, if you were his boss and saw that his normal work isn't achieving the goals, would you not adjust it. Surely this isn't an oh well situation where we just throw our hands up in defeat? Id have a hard time with thatThis is what Art is man....that's the reality. I was neutral on the hire at the time. His system just isn't a fit for what Ohio State has on the roster. Either he adjusts or they recruit players that fit his system. Since I don't believe either one will really happen, there will be a mutual parting of ways at some point after the season.
That's not how football coaches work and typically not how they are wired. It's easy to say that on a message board, but the reality is football coaches don't like change and will try to work with what they got in the moment. They' will likely see the lack of execution, and regardless of philosophy, there has been a LOT of execution failures, and try to fix that in-season. think about it - the read option game that Urban ran was dated and being stopped far more regularly in 2017, but he kept running it stubbornly without much variance. They are creatures of habit. That's a fair statement. But, if you were his boss and saw that his normal work isn't achieving the goals, would you not adjust it. I think day got spooked by Fields getting hurt running and over reacted the opposite way. And seems to think they should just be able to run in the important games when he has coached them not to the rest of the time. But that seems to be tenor of his career. He seems to have over reacted to TSUN and getting called soft. Call me soft all you want after I beat you be 40 it's fineI remember a time we were clowning on a certain QB up north for that.
I don't disagree with what you said necessarily, but Fahey ran when he had too. I'm not certain Sayin would have in the same scenario.
I think the slower pace hurts Fahey's game. Speed it up and let it fly. Slowing things down gives him time to think.
