Anybody who has follows my posts knows that I try to stay positive and find something good about the Bucks no matter the outcome. Well screw that.
Play of the game – Jim Tressel taking a time out, running onto the field, and going ape – all to argue that Iowa should be 3rd and 9 instead of 3rd and 5. Only to win the battle and have Iowa run for a first down – with their fifth string walk-on RB.
Player of the game – Sirjo Welch. I only say him make one nice play – but that was all it took today.
We sent 14 players to the NFL last season – But we still have recruits on this team that Iowa can only dream of having. And they are not without experience. The rule that you can play Juniors and Sophomores – and even Freshman - is not new. Other teams have done it. This is no longer an excuse.
When is the last time? - All I have heard the last three weeks is “When is the last time we…” (lost to NU? Lost at Iowa? Lost two straight? Lost three straight?) Well, I can’t remember the last time I switched off an OSU game with 5 minutes gone in the second half to watch another game and switch back occasionally to see how the OSU game was coming . I mean, I will look over to check out a car wreck as I drive by, but if I see blood and guts I always turn my head.
Key question - If Jim Tressel is who he says he is, and who I have always believed he is, why did his team quit today?
Second Guessing game - Anybody still want to argue that the problem is Ross playing ahead of Pittman? Zwick playing ahead of Smith?
Can you imagine - an easier job than the DC who is getting ready to play OSU?
It could be worse - Instead of being a frustrated OSU fan you could be Jim Tressel this week. Lucy – you got some splaining to do. Except we wont be collecting one 52nd of a million dollars this week.
It could be much worse – Now that we know Zwick really is ‘the man’ (relatively speaking of course) what do we do next week if Zwick is injured? Anybody think Smith looked one week away from leading this Offense?
Remember when? - Remeber how good a coach John Cooper was when he had Walt Harris? I sure miss Dantonio. Take another look at the performance of the O. Not today. For the past four years.
And finally, because I simply can’t resist - the positives. I hurt my knee a while back and when I started favoring it my foot started giving me problems. That led to problems with my hip. Point being, even though every dimension of our game sucked today it doesn’t mean everything is broke. The O has to keep the D off the field now and then. The QB and RBs need some blocking to be effective. And the OL needs time to develop. Our OL has one player who has been at OSU more than two years and two months – and he is a former walk-on. The class that should have been leading this OL as seniors consisted of Cook and Olds. The best OL in the next class was Derek Morris. None of that excuses today’s performance. Nothing excuses that performance. But ….. Aw shit, I can’t even finish this argument.
