OBSERVATIONS FROM C DECK - MIAMI

7. NOT SO SPECIAL TEAMS

Do they call these guys special teams because they show up for practice on the short bus? Again a conundrum. I was reading the backs of the jerseys when our kick coverage team took the field for the first time against Marshall and thinking - "Wow. This is a who's who of talented recruits. These guys should be good."

And they should.

Poor kick coverage kept the Rose Bowl close as Oregon returned kicks for 199 yards. Lowly Marshall had 175 yards in kick returns. Miami 204.

Don't make me come down there JT. This is a coaching issue.

Iowa.

"My Parents went to Columbus - and all they got was Intercepted."
I love this line so much I almost want a T shirt.
Great job and thanks so very much.

And Oh yes, if we don't start covering kicks and run blocking we won't end up where we want to.

Miami fans...yeah, pretty classless, screaming through all the 9/11 tributes. Not my favorites. I thought their adding "U" to the "O-H-I-O" was actually OK, kinda made me chuckle, but the LeBron chalkdust release in the Miami section after the first TD...all kinds of lame, especially since LeBron wasn't even there.

The Miami fans that were at the game were some of the most classless and arrogant fans i have ever seen. I thought LSU fans were bad at the NC a few years ago, but Miami tops them by a long shot. For some reason there were alot of fans in my section, and all they did was want to start a yelling fight with people around them. Then any time OSU would score or get a stop on 3rd down, they would just yell "It's all about the U" and hold up that stupid U hand symbol. Even down my 20 points in the 3rd/4th they were still trying to talk shit with people around them.

Once the game was over some OSU fans were saying "Good game" and shaking hands with the Miami fans (not trying to be jerks or anything...just trying to do a class act) yet the Miami fans wouldn't shake hands and their only comeback was "Enjoy the winter".

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but i thought the Miami players were classless as well. During the 9/11 stuff before the game and the national anthem they were just standing in the end zone holding up the U symbol and paying attention to their fans. Also during the game there were alot of dirty hits, especially on Pryor, which the refs never called. I was not impressed with Miami fans or players at all...i would still consider them Thug U.

Friday night one of my friends got into an argument on Lane and High with some Miami fans who were running their mouths. We asked how much it sucked to be so [censored]ty, you can't even win your conference ONCE. One of them responded with, "how much do your parents make." :slappy:

My friend from Granville with two surgeons for parents takes the Miami fans hat off, stomps on it in the middle of High street and screams, "My parents' money had nothing to do with how big of a pussy you are." The Miami fan did nothing.

Funniest [censored] I have ever seen. I can only hope someone else on this board saw this because there were like 100 people outside of B dubs just cracking up at this bafoon.

I was sittin in 12a which was close to their little section, and yes mose of their fans were asses. One really funny thing I did see was Brutus running around in the 3rd quarter with a hand written sign reading, "It's all about the Shoe". He showed it too the Miami fans too; I don't think they thought it was as funny as I did. Overall it was a great experience for my first game in the Shoe.

:oh:

everyone has their own experience and i have to say that i thought the exact opposite of LSU fans...besides the occasional "Tiger Bait" comment, i went with 10 friends to what turned out to be an all LSU tailgate and didnt hear anything towards me, they let us drink free beer and eat whatever food we wanted for free...and then later we had 2 LSU fans pay for our entire bill at ACME Oyster house because we let them sit with us at our table because the place was packed...i didnt go to the Miami game but just from my personal experiences with people i know who are Miami fans, they are very cocky and are extremely rude

They were a weird bunch. Chin strap beards on some of them.... they reminded me of New York fans. At the trough urinals in sec 29a there was a couple of them trying to pee while getting harassed by some aggressive Ohio State fans. It was funny and awkward.... so dont feel like they werent getting shit.

Just noticed this about OSU's touchdown drives:

Saine, Brandon 18 yd pass from Pryor, Terrelle (Barclay, Devin kick) 2 plays, 80 yards, TOP 0:36
Herron, Dan 4 yd run (Barclay, Devin kick) 2 plays, 19 yards, TOP 0:33
Pryor, Terrelle 13 yd run (Barclay, Devin kick) 2 plays, 15 yards, TOP 0:50

Saine looked like a world beater last week. This week Miami wouldn't let him get free running the ball (avg less than a yard per carry), though he had a few catches including one for a beautiful TD.

Herron was an afterthought against Marshall, but turned in a really solid performance against Miami. Almost night and day between the two games for him on the ground. Showed some patience, followed his blocks, and knew JUST when to cut it upfield for a big gain.

Would LOVE to see the coaches gameplan using specific runners for certain teams. Slow D? Throw Berry and/or Hall in there with Herron. Can't tackle? Start Saine and add a healthy dose of Hyde. Short yardage passing? Three-headed monster of Saine, Hall, & Zach Boren. In need of a change-up? Mix your thunder with your lightning.

Would also love to see the "shot-ginn" formation make a come back, because between Pryor, Saine, Hall, Berry, and Philly Brown, we have the playmakers to REALLY make that formation dangerous again.

My 2 cents; God blessed Saine with everything except what I'll call, "vision", or "instinct", and I don't think you can teach it. Saine is all of 6' and all of 210 pounds, and hold the Ohio high school state record (10.3 seconds) in the 100M dash. If there is another college RB out there with that combination of size, strength, and speed I'm not aware of him.

When our O-line can blast a hole at the "planned" point of attack Saine is the man for the mission. His TD run over right tackle during The Marshall game is the best illustration I can think of. Unfortunately, if things don't
go according to plan, Saine is not the type back who can make something out of nothing.

Herron, is the exact opposite of Saine. IMHO, Herron this the least physically talented of the RBs on our roster. What Herron does very well is improvise when the going is tough. Herron won't go for 60 yards against a talented team but will come up with positive yards.

I'm with OH8CH on Berry, he seems to have it all. What a pleasant problem to have. Good luck threatening with sweat shirt sales:biggrin:

Yeah, if you read back in the game thread, once it got to the third play on a drive people were calling FG.

I ran into many Miami fans both before and after the game. Was very surprised at how friendly, well-behaved and generally "not from Thug U" they were. Saw many instances of tOSU fans acting pretty crappy toward Hurricane fans, though.

Agreed...I was very disappointed in how the fans in my section were acting. I was in the last row of 11AA (for handicapped) and had people walking behind me. The fans in the first few rows of 11A were okay but there were some guys behind them that were just ruthless towards the people in Canes gear...especially the poor kid with a harelip that walked by wearing a Canes jersey. They ripped him apart and I thought it was totally classless...
