OBSERVATIONS FROM C DECK - IU

11. HARTLINE

How long before we move him to LB? Six tackles in two weeks. JT denied him a Tatum Hit of the Week Award for his block earlier this season because he didn't think it was up to the standards of the Assassin. I think this weeks hit (which incidentally put Thigpen out of the game) qualifies.

All three of us that were watching the game (yep, it was on AFN ) jumped out of our seats after that hit. Sent my beer flying to the floor. :tongue2:

I hate getting old. I have participated in threads talking about former walk ons and I still overlooked the Gold Standard in Glenn. So, is Yao the best ever defensive walk on?

very surprsing considering the fact that IU maybe has the best music program of any public school in the country... i've seen them a couple times before, and they were outstanding...

When my kids were in band the HS director was friends with the IU director and the Marching Hundred actually performed at a Grove City HS game once. I too was impressed.

But Saturday I had trouble even hearing them. To be fair they played to the Huntington Club and I was on the opposite side in C-Deck, but I had no such problem with the OSU band. They stood still for long stretches when they played and when they did move it was a bit slow and methodical. Now, technically they may have been perfect - but despite all my years of listening to marching band music I have little ear for that. Unless they are playing on OSU fight song it all sounds like accoridions and bag pipes to me.

It is possible to detonate a bomb at the end of an early game and at the beginning of a late game.

You have put a little too much thought into this for my comfort level. :)

4. TIGHT ENDS

OK BB73, when is the last time OSU threw three TD passes to Tight Ends in one game?

Oh, and on Ginn's TD pass - I hate to nit-pick, but I thought Nicol should have fair caught the ball.

I believe I heard on the FAN on Sunday's call in show that the last time was the Outback Bowl win in 2000. Darnell Sanders had one and the other 2 I caan't remember who they said

That's not it.

tOSU lost back-to-back Outback Bowls to South Carolina after the 2000 and 2001 seasons. The second game (Jan 1, 2002) was a 31-28 decision with the comeback to tie it, and the late FG by S. Carolina.

Sanders had 2 TD's; but the others were by Jonathan Wells and Steve Bellisari. This does appear to be the last time one tight end caught a pair of TDs in a game, though.

I didn't forget about this, Oh8ch, you evil man!

It looks like the answer is Bob Grimes, with 4 receiving TDs against Washington State in 1952. Grimes had 9 catches for 187 yards that day. For the season, he tied Hopalong Cassady and Fred Bruney for the team lead with 6 TDs.

No other tight end has caught 3 TDs in a game since then; but I'm not sure if 3 in a game has been accomplished with more than 1 tight end since then.

One note about JT and the first post in this thread. It would appear from JTs comments in his press conference yesterday, that he no longer supports a playoff. He seems quite comfortable with the system in place. Granted, being #1 helps him feel that way, but I think he recognizes that this is the way it is, and a playoff isn't the nirvanna many think it is.

My own observation from Saturday's game: B-Deck was damn cold.

We're looking down on A Deck and people are peeling off layers, one chick was wearing a pink thing that might have been described as really large pasties with shoulder straps. We were down right cold in the shade of C-Deck.

August/September - B-Deck ok

October/November - B-Deck cold.

The "hot" chocolate from the concession stand (sans TG05) wasn't even luke warm, much less "hot". This stand by the way is run by a group called "The Association for India's Development". Here I thought India was one of the most developed and advanced nations not called "USA" in the world.

Yep, their opera folks used to play Carnegie Hall every year. Don't know if that's still true.

They have a great sound and great charts (arrangments) but they march like the animals in Aieda, each to their own drummer... and any band that uses woodwinds gets lost in the Shoe. TBDBITL didn't go to all brass and percussion for no reason.
