Just heard on 1460 that O'B made a breif statement to ESPN Radio...

They didn't quote him directly but they characterized him as saying:

1. His firing came as a complete surprise

and

2. That he cannot comment on what he called a serious (Maybe major, not sure which word they used) conflict with the university.

Sounds like a lawsuit to me.

I'd hate to judge OB this early but the facts released thus far are hard to spin. Giving money, whether in best intentions or not, is a cardinal sin.

Could there be more to the story? It seems from the info released so far it's pretty cut and dry.... who knows at this point. Is Knight hired yet? :)

Did he even apologize? If not, what a scumbag. Hopefully he's never allowed to step foot on OSU's campus ever again. What a disgrace.

Yeah, helping a family from a war-torn country is a total disgrace. He should be shot. We all know that putting a basketball through a hoop is far more improtant than helping a family in dire need. But, if he says, "I'm sorry" than all is good. What a loser you are...

yeah, I"m sure you understood Ed Martin giving money to a poverty striken Chris Webber caught in the ghetto of Detroit. :roll1: Do they get any dumber than Milly?

Let's try and use slurpee-boy's logic here:

$6,000 to a family in a war zone = $100,000 to a punk in a major city

Yep, he's still not only an obnoxious asshole, but he's also a moron.

a rule is a rule, retard. I forgot to see where the NCAA makes stipulations for the amount of money you give. Think of it this way...if this Yugoslav player had come here and we had won a NCAA title, it would look pretty bad right now returning the title back. "The NCAA has decided that no penalty will be handed down to Ohio State. Gifts of 10,000 and less are acceptable to recruits from countries that are currently engaged in warfare"

Obrien...pathetic cheater. Enjoy the rest of your career...hopefully it will be one complete failure.

Wow, dickweed, that's a real open view. I guess we can all do away with sentencing portions of trials seeing as all violations of a law/rule are the same. Moron.

so you think that O'brien's pathetic ass shouldn't have been fired?

Actually I don't. I think he should've been reprimanded, fined, suspended, or a combination thereof. Make the punishment fit the level of the infraction, not simply nuke the guy because he technically committed an infraction.

Paying a recruit is not a technicality. It's called cheating. And O'brien got his just punishment.

Why was Obie not fired back in March when he admitted that he gave the $6k? Geiger has known since the day before the spring game. There has to be more to the story that hasn't been released yet...or perhaps he only pulled the trigger when the heat got turned up via the Salyers lawsuit.
