Let's try and use slurpee-boy's logic here:

$6,000 to a family in a war zone = $100,000 to a punk in a major city

Yep, he's still not only an obnoxious asshole, but he's also a moron.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees a large distinction between the two circumstances. It seems fairly obvious to me.

Why was Obie not fired back in March when he admitted that he gave the $6k? Geiger has known since the day before the spring game.

That would have been April, not March, but it is correct that Geiger knew for some time before firing O'Brien. This concerns me as well, not necessarily that Geiger did not fire him then (actually, he not only didn't fire him - he declined to accept his resignmation) but specifically what triggered the change in heart. It would certainly imply that something else has come up since then - but Geiger was also aware of the lawsuit.

Did Geiger discover something related to the lawsuit that might be factual? Is there something else we haven't heard about? That Geiger simply mulled it over and decided to fire O'Brien with nothing new on the table, and that he would do so without even talking to O'Brien about it simply doesn't make sense.
