For example type www.unl.edu into your browser.

Any idea where that will take you? Guess what the name is on the header.

And when you go to www.nebraska.edu, while they call themselves the 'University of Nebraska', there are multiple instances of the institution referring to itself as NU on the home page.

So, based on their own websites, I'd say your argument is fairly weak.

And it's a ridiculous argument anyway, which is why I don't use NU to talk about either one of them, and I think the board is better off avoiding this silly debate.

The silly debate is why I avoid the use of 'NU' in thread titles, and now I wish I hadn't bothered to mention it in the first post.

Hey if National University wants to field a FB team & go by NU more power to them. I'm equally fine with Oregon State & Oklahoma State each referring to themselves at OSU.

And when you go to www.nebraska.edu, while they call themselves the 'University of Nebraska', there are multiple instances of the institution referring to itself as NU on the home page.

They being the university system of the state of Nebraska.

My undergrad is from UCSD...part of the California state university system. That doesn't mean we call ourselves "Cal", nor do Ohio University (let alone Central State or Wright State) grads refer to their teams as "OSU".

Ultimately it must be frustrating when people get all confused by those USO sweatshirts you break out on game days.
