His first point in the article on Neon Deon was dead on target.

I would counter his argument on LSU by suggesting that if the young men at LSU worked hard enough to be a consistent starter for one of the best teams in the best conference in college football - it's silly to assume they simply forgot how to work hard or became lazy in the NFL.

Bad breaks and busts happen from all schools - but it doesn't mean the program should be avoided. Chevis Jackson is becoming a damn fine player for the Falcons.

Whitlock did get one thing right ... JaMarcus Russell sucks.

From Bill Simmons's mailbag today:

Last night I'm looking over the final stats from Favre-a-palooza and I notice that Sidney Rice went 0-1 with zero yards passing, but had a QB rating of 39.6. JaMarcus Russell's QB rating for the year is 42.4!!!! Do you find this as hilarious and embarrassing as I do? A WR that throws one pass that goes for an incompletion almost has a higher QB rating than the Raiders' starting quarterback and the No. 1 overall pick three years ago.

Dryden - you're one of the smartest posters here. Don't read Simmons.
He's meant for half drunk new england school boys and the crowds that wear pink red sox and patriots hats.
I read Simmons from May through early-October. He's dead to me once NCAA & NBA basketball seasons start or after the Sox advance past the ALDS.

Once he gets into his mode where every column is a 25,000 word essay on what his dad thought of the 1983 NBA draft, I look elsewhere.

I left him when three consecutive pieces mentioned either Karate Kid or Teen Wolf.

It just screamed "this is a person who doesn't take his job seriously and is simply a schill for his favorite teams."

See, this is one of the reasons why I like reading Simmons. He's a fan of his hometown teams and isn't embarrassed to admit it. A lot of his articles come across as stream-of-conscious riffs like any average guy would have in a conversation with friends, and he repeatedly references cheesy 80s entertainment, which I and a lot of my friends do too.

It's not until he starts writing like he's an NBA GM or the commish that I have to tune out.

But honestly, you cannot chastise me for reading Simmons when you started the thread with a reference to Whitlock.

I'd argue there aren't enough references to Karate Kid and Teen Wolf.

If he referenced a Karate Wolf, then that would be awesome!
