Notre Dame (football only discussion)

Wouldn't sell the Catholic draw short. Several of the Catholics at the club wear the ND green hats. And follow. And I bring up that their NBC contract (and bowl games, etc) benefit ND ONLY. No split with ACC, so everything goes into their Jesuit pockets. While tOSU, Bamas of the world must/have to split with the rest of their respective leagues, after covering travel expenses, of course. And with no knowledge whatsoever, would opine that ND doesn't NIL themselves into the top 'givers' for talent. Rely on their cachet of simply BEING ND. Oh, well, sour grapes, but still don't want them in the B10. Not certain whether their hockey team plays in B10 (ACC doesn't support hockey), but would not allow any team from that school to participate in B10 competitions.

It’s only their hockey team, and the B1G should dump them.

I like the idea of the other conferences freezing them out of football schedules. Let them play a UConn (the only other independent currently) and a bunch of FCS teams and see if that schedule gets them into the CFP.

I love a good collusion!

Totally agree. 'Back in the day', ND was the cock of the walk, going into any state saying, 'who's the best OL? We'll take them'. Who's the best RB? We'll take them', and so they went. That cachet has carried forward, and still lingers today. Guess the NBC likes the number of viewers that ND draws for football games. Anyway, kowtowing to ND, with language that 'purtneer guarantees' ND's inclusion in a playoff sucks. Other than last year's run to the Nati, don't believe they've been relevant, yet the 'new' playoff language says.....(paraphrased) that ND is 'in' if they're in the top 12. Guess not so true this year, so maybe they/we're waking up to reality...

Not surprised.

It’s been a really poor and short sighted decision by their leadership.

They actually had some public support that they were screwed (mostly by Bama’s inclusion, not the H2H vs Miami).

Now they decided to opt out of playing on the field, wage wars on conferences (of which they are not members) and thus start a battle vs networks too.

They have it all laid out on a red carpet next year between the schedule and top-12 agreement. Just shut up and come back like men.

I hope it keeps getting worse for them.

in 2012, despite Ohio State being undefeated and coached by eventually CFB HOFer Urban Meyer......mysteriously the AP poll didn't deem us worthy of a top 2 spot. We spent most of that season lower than 5, a good chunk of it lower than 10. We weren't even ranked in the Coaches Poll. We all know why, but it was stupid to not rank us where we deserved to be.

Wouldn't it be a big fat fuckin shame if ND somehow magically didn't make the top 12 or 10 or whatever they need to get the automatic inclusion next year?

I would go farther than just dumping their hockey team.
I would say that the Big Ten needs to refuse to play Notre Dame in any sport.
And the Big Ten will not play any team for 5 years after they play Notre Dame.
Northern Illinois - if you want to play Notre Dame, fine. But you aren't playing any Big Ten team in any sport for at least 5 years after that.
Navy - same for you.
USC - you're done playing them, or you can get out.
*ichigan, you can play Notre Dame, because you're out, anyway.
Oh, Notre Dame - now you want in the Big Ten? I don't recall inviting you. Get out.

On a similar note, the Big Ten and SEC should just make their own playoff. Top 4 in each conference, or something. Winner of each 4-team playoff plays in some neutral site bowl game. Maybe it rotates between Indianapolis, Atlanta, Dallas, and the Rose Bowl. Something like that. Call the game whatever you want. But those teams don't join the college football playoffs. Watch that system crumble from the weight of trying to support Clemson and Boise and Tulane and Virginia and Texas Tech and BYU.

How can ’CFP officials’ sign an MOU without the Power-4 ADs being aware of that agreement?

The ADs need to be ticked off at the CFP (basically Disney/espn) as well as being ticked at the Domers. This sure makes it likely that the new agreement being driven by the B1G and the SEC will include no favors for ND.

And the B1G needs to minimize the impact that espn can have going forward.
