Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

No, no sarcasm. Maybe NCAA is a stretch but I could still see something come out from the ACC regarding COVID protocols not being met and stiff penalties if it continues. I did see a statement went out to students from the Prez.

Notre Dame will confess their "ACC COVID-19 protocol" sins, say ten Hail Marys, and all will be forgiven.

We have friends with students at ND and they are sending any students home to quarantine if they can identify them in the post game scrum in the middle of the field. Our friends daughters have already packed their bags as they actually posted a picture on Facebook on the field (masks were on LOL). But the real question for me is if they are going to have a huge outbreak and shut it down for a week or 2. High price to pay. Especially when you consider one of the top 5 players in college football was on the sidelines due to testing positive for covid.

The entire student body was on the field.

He might have been the most COVID-19 safest person in the stadium. He has had very recent multiple negative tests since his original positive; basically he is over it, no longer contagious, and (since he has had it) now has immunity from getting it again.

It's unclear how long the immunity lasts but certainly Barbie wouldn't be contagious now if his original positive test was accurate. Wonder why he was wearing a mask? Not really sure what the behavior protocols are- he can't give or get it. Is it to "set a good example?" Lots of presumably susceptible players and coaches were sans mask.

ACC Announces Enhancements to COVID-19 Protocols
As a further means of protection, all non-essential personnel will be prohibited from the sidelines and team auxiliary areas for the 2020 season. Those who are deemed essential to the management of the game -- such as the chain gang -- will be required to undergo a temperature screening and symptom check before being allowed on the field. They will also be required to observe physical distancing and masking rules, along with other precautions.

I think that is just an ACC COVID-19 protocol for non players on the sideline. Since he wasn't eligible to play and/or on Clemson's official travel team; for masking purposes, he wasn't considered a player, etc.

Sure, you can say that. but there's been multiple cases presented of people having had the virus and contracting it again within that supposed "immunity window".

Just sayin': I'm just going on what the CDC says and Lawrence would be within that "3 month window".

Can people who recover from COVID-19 be re-infected with SARS-CoV-2?

The immune response, including duration of immunity, to SARS-CoV-2 infection is not yet understood. Patients infected with other betacoronaviruses (MERS-CoV, HCoV-OC43), the genus to which SARS-CoV-2 belongs, are unlikely to be re-infected shortly (e.g., 3 months or more) after they recover. However, more information is needed to know whether similar immune protection will be observed for patients with COVID-19.

Let me answer this again. My wife and her colleagues have had two patients from earlier this year back in the hospital ICU with COVID-19 again. So, not a press report, not hearsay. Verified. One had died and the other is in a coma. If there is any immunity, it would be very short-lived. COVID-19 is mutating and thus re-infection would be a complex issue for either of these teams.
