Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

(Bad) Luck of the Irish.

The biggest victims of Notre Dame's poor play during the college football season may not be on the team, or in the stands, or even members of the university.

While NBC may only air Notre Dame home games each year, the staggering ineptitude of the Fighting Irish football team has led to staggeringly low ratings for NBC. Saturday afternoon's clash between the Irish and arch-rival USC drew a 2.1/5 overnight, down 73% from the 7.9 overnight the same match-up drew in 2005, the last time NBC aired the game, and down 78% from the 9.6 overnight the same match-up drew last year in primetime on ABC.

Through four games, NBC is averaging a 2.3 metered market rating, down 36% from a 3.6 for the first four games last year.

The 2.1 overnight for Saturday's game is the lowest for a Notre Dame/USC match-up since at least 1998.

Ratings trend for ND/USC.
1998: N/A overnight, 5.4 final (11/28, 8:00 PM ABC)
1999: 3.4 overnight, 2.8 final (10/16, 2:30 PM NBC)
2000: 4.6 overnight, 4.5 final (11/25, 3:30 PM ABC)
2001: 2.6 overnight, 2.1 final (10/20, 2:30 PM NBC)
2002: 7.7 overnight, 6.7 final (11/30, 8:00 PM ABC)
2003: 2.9 overnight, 2.4 final (10/18, 2:30 PM NBC)
2004: 6.6 overnight, 6.3 final (11/27, 8:00 PM ABC)
2005: 7.9 overnight, 6.7 final (10/15, 3:30 PM NBC)
2006: 9.6 overnight, 9.0 final (11/25, 8:00 PM ABC)
2007: 2.1 overnight, N/A final (10/20, 3:30 PM NBC)

Since this thread is moving again, I thought I would mention the fact that Charlie is fat, I mean really fat, like if you were a donut, you wouldn't want to be anywhere near the guy fat.

Charlie's not fat! He's uh, big boned! He's a growing boy anyways he needs to eat!

I'd just like to say that I really enjoy the triangle of hate thing we've got going on between OSU, Michigan, and Notre Dame, especially since Notre Dame is the bastard child that no one will team up with to hate on anyone else

Haha it's kind of funny. You guys are kind of an outsider though because you rarely play ND. Mind you, if I got raped that badly in the Fiesta Bowl, I probably wouldn't wanna play that team again either

are you a mischigan fan or an OSU? can't really tell by some of your posts.

Hate for ND is there because they don't deserve the respect media gives em. Also, that school is like an hour away from ohio. if that.

I'm a Michigan fan but I have a high level of respect for Ohio State. I don't feel the need to bash OSU players just because they rock Scarlet and Gray. If they're legit players, they're legit players. No need to pretend like they're not.

I don't have any respect for ND however. But if they have legit players I admit it too, but I don't have to worry about that problem too often

That's true of any triangle of CFB fans in the world. If you want to make friends or get along with another CFB teams fans just bring up ND, say you hate them and you'll have common ground.

That little trick has made for a peacful round of golf between myself and SEC fans for years now.

This needs to be recorded for posterity. When reminded by Forde that 89 teams had won a bowl game since Notre Dame won a game, Lou Holtzchenozzle responded, "Notre Dame always has to play someone better in a bowl game. They always get put in with a team that is better than them."

To this, Mark May responded, "That's what you get when you are Ntre Ame." And then, he murmured some wisened insight about all that tradition.

Dear Lou and all delusional Ntre Ame fans:

You are right, Lou. Your team is always playing better teams. That's because your agreement with the BCS allows you to play in BCS bowl games you don't deserve to play in. Do yourselves and us all a favor, insist that your team earn their way into bowl games just like any other team, and you might just win a New Mexico Bowl or Las Vegas Bowl game. You could even find yourself winning a bowl game after January 1st*!

*Note: Depends on the GMAC Bowl allowing you to play.

Best wishes
Steve19

PS: Mark May, STFU does not stand for so thankful for u opinion. STFU.
