Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

IF TRUE, then this guy commited a felony that resulted, eventually, in the death of a human being. I'm not a legal expert, but you don't have to be to know that the act is morally one notch below murder... on a scale that has a very large number of notches /IF TRUE

I wasn't thinking, I meant to say manslaughter.

I mean seriously. If there's one institution in the entire god damned world that should pause and say, "hmmmm....covering up a sexual assault is probably not the best move" it would be a Catholic institution. Oh well, what's that they say about the definition of insanity?

Um, I seem to remember a much larger Catholic institution *cough* The Vatican *cough* trying to cover up sexual assults of alter boys. So, to me this is par for the course for a Catholic institution. Just sayin'.

That's actually what I was hinting at: that ND is a component of that bigger institution. I couched it to avoid any accusations of catholic bashing.

The arrogance of ND is right along the lines of what happened with the pedopriests: don't turn over documents to state law enforcement, cover up, stonewall families. Remember, this happened on September 10th, and it's only become public now because the devoutly Catholic family got tired of ND stonewalling and hired a former federal prosecutor and went to the Chicago media.

Another interesting facet of this is the behavior of the ND Police Department. They are a legally sanctioned Indiana police unit, but when push came to shove they acted like a private security force: refusing to notify local prosecutors or share information with the South Bend police or rape victims unit. Regardless of the validity of the charges against the football player, I would hope that the state of Indiana looks very closely into the actions of the ND police.

I'd be suprised if all those involved in the supposed cover up didn't face multiple charges. It isn't like these are rent-a-cops, these are sworn officers of the law...

This is the kinda case that gets put into law books...

Kelly picked an odd time to attempt a joke.

CBS

St. Joseph County prosecutor Michael Dvorak said the school forwarded a "voluminous" report on the case on Friday, two days before the story appeared in the Tribune, but also that he was unaware of the story until seeing the story in the paper.

The name of the player in question has not been released, as since he has not been charged with anything, the Tribune has decided not to release his identity. Showing ethics that seem to be lacking at Notre Dame these days.

Obviously, Brian Kelly has had to field a share of questions about this story in the last few days, and his answers are rather appalling. When asked about it by a number of Tribune reporters during a conference call on Sunday, Kelly made a joke about the situation.

"I didn't know [the Tribune] could afford all those guys," cracked Kelly, showing a complete lack of respect to the gravity of the situation.

Kelly then went on to say that anything involving this story is a university matter.

"Anything the article alleges is a university matter," Kelly said. "The process is to dispel rumors and misinformation and get to the facts. And that's what our university is doing."

To be fair to Kelly, this investigation is not his, but the way he tried to deflect the questions doesn't exactly mirror the type of character or integrity he says he tries to hold his players to.

Cont'd ...

What I want to know is where is the outrage from the faculty and certain quarters of the student body, both of whom would be howling had this happened at Ohio State or any other Big Ten school? Is everyone at the god forsaken place consumed with kool-aid drinking and maintaining the myth?

Chicago radio reporting that ND has turned over their "case file" to the local prosecutor and the Indiana State Police have pulled the ND Police Department off the case and taken it over themselves.

"This just in; football season is just about over, full story and film at 11 Saturday night..."

I said to a huge ND fan at work today, "Hey man, what's up with the continuing demise and downfall that was Notre Dame football?" ...he responded with this no joke...

"Did we not just destroy Army?" I laughed for about 5 minutes straight and said, "Wow...you really are a Notre Dame fan".

Some things never change.

If I'm a ND fan I don't want Kelly as my coach. The dude just says some really shitty things. The guy acts like a complete prick. Seems he fits right in with other Domers.

I really think the days of ND being anything more than a shit hole of college town are gone.

Funny, you should mention that -- after his success at getting GCL/GMC kids to go to Cincinnati -- I'm hearing rumblings from GCL coaches (Moe, Elder,) that their grads are tres unhappy. Look for some early departures at the end of this season.
