Notre Dame 49, Purdue 29 (Final)

sandgk

Watson, Crick & A Twist
Well this board is late in having a thread fo this game..

ND took Purdue to the woodshed in the first half ...

But Purdue took advantage of their first possession in the second half and the score now stands at ND 28 -- Purdon't 7

Shall we see 3 major 2nd half melt-downs within the same calendar week in the top 25?

Evidently NOT.

Quinn to #83 - Piss-Poor attention to detail by the pPurdue defense lets him skate down the sideline and into the endzone.

(They "thought" they had taken #83 out of bounds).

Play to the whistle!

Purdon't returned all 11 starters on defense.

They're ranked 113th in pass defense, and Quinn is 22 of 25 for 347 (in the 3rd qtr). Sounds like Phil Simms' final numbers in a Super Bowl.

Purdue adds a touchdown cutting the score to ND 35 - Purdue 14. Bryant from Kirsch

I agree with the commentary - If Purdue wants to win, they may want to think about an onside kick - as they show no signs of being able to stop ND, or Brady Quinn.

Samardzija is having a career game for the Irish.

Samardzija</td> <td>7</td> <td>153</td> <td>21.9</td> <td>55</td> <td>2</td> <td>0
</td></tr></tbody> </table>
EDIT -- Back to Back INT's

Purdue picks of Quinn.

Then on the next play by Purdue from scrimmage Kirsch's pass is picked in the end-zone.

Deflation...

Samarjia is also a pitcher for ND's baseball team with like a 95 mph fastball.

Man that was fun, at the end of the first half that crowd was stunned. Purdue's fans do this chant
1-2-3-4 FIRST DOWN! We copied it and did it all night long....

daddyphatsacs - Couldn't have said it better about the realtive strengths of these different teams.
Certainly, that has implications for the Big10. We do not play Purdue but they play all others excepting sCUM .. how does this leave them for the rest of the season?
OTOH, from the standpoint of BCS standings we all know what will happen. ND will get a huge unctious annointment at the altar of the coaches and media polls.
Plus, you have the issue of who becomes the best chance to knock off USC. ASU was good to go till being outplayed, out-coached and out-everything in the 2nd half. I don't buy this, but the commentators last night were pretty quick to claim that no-one left on USC's schedule would give the Trojans a tougher game than ND.

Completely aside from that- the commentary had one hilarious "Jane you ignorant slut" moment.

The female sideline reporter (Holly) was praising Purdue's Defensive coaches for trying to keep their team into the game, teaching on the sideline, "not letting them give up."

Score at this time was 49-21.

Down from the booth comes this comment --
"Holly, they're not giving up, its 49-21, sweetheart"
