You know, it only take a couple bounces to turn Tressel from Hero into goat. That 2002 OSU team came away with so many close victories over below average teams... Cinn put more than 400 yds on the vaunted OSU defense and could've won the game... Wisc played OSU without Lee Evans... PSU was pretty much one dimensional with LJ and it came down to a controversial PI non call... Barely escaped Purdue and needed a 4th down conversion for the winning TD... Beat mighty ILL in OT... Uh and yes, did not play IA, the other undefeated big10 team...
Were you one of the person that wanted OSU to go to a bowl for a revenge against USCar since you've lost to them twice in a row in the Outback bowl? And argued that until OSU beat a below average team convincingly, they're not ready for Miami? Because obviously Miami was going to kick any team up and down the field that year. OSU won it on a controversial PI call! Well, it took many bounces going OSU way throughout the season, but you still have to put yourself in position to take advantage of those breaks. That NC broke the Miami Dynasty's back and was the beginning of the OSU Dynasty.
Now this year... OSU played USC without it's best offensive player, and probably the best RB since forever and had to use the help of a freshman QB because TB struggled somewhat since the end of last season... OSU was in position to win but one fumble gave a clear advantage to PSU, you knocked out the starting QB, but this time PSU backup is as capable as the guy in front of him... Uh Oh, the Big10 is going to get their doors blown off if they play a real game!
"The talent just isn't there..."? This sounds like a Charlie Weis excuse to me. When was the last time PSU had a better recruiting class than OSU? You are under the impression that someone is going to put together a perfect team... like USC (oops, they lost to a team that barely came out of highschool).
In 2006, no one gave FLA much of a chance against the OSU Dynasty, I think it was an 8 points spread. FLA beat TENN and SCar by 1 point each and lost to Auburn by 10. OSU only close game was 3 points over rival Michigan which was undefeated. Who got whose doors blown off?
BIG10 don't have glamour teams like USC or the old Miami. We don't have flashy teams like OK, TX. BIG10 championships are won with defenses year in and year out. I think the 2006 players got the impression that with 2 Heisman candidates on their offense, they didn't need to play defense. They let Michigan scored 38 points. They didn't put FLA in a headlock and squeeze. They scored first and injured their deadliest scoring weapon during the celebration! That's what cost them the NC, because FLA was a #2 team, not just some scrubs they could overlook.
You ask your team to have killer instincts but then you don't want them to go for the glory. This PSU team (not the fans) has the heart of a champion. There are still 3 games left, and even if they lose one of them, they would still pop right back up and want a shot at the championship. Same for MSU and Minnie, they haven't mailed in the season yet. That is all you can ask of a team because not every ball will bounce their way. The OSU team has the heart of a champion in the freshman TP, and that's your problem. Just look at the OSU sideline during the USC game and you could see. Look at the OSU bench after the PSU game and you could see TP by himself. Your team was not with your champion. Tressel will see that and he will try to fix that.
While the loss hurts, but grieving time is over. OSU still have a very good shot at redemption in the post season. The bigger the fight, the bigger stick the buckeyes are going to bring with them. The buckeyes still have plenty of time to band together. There is still much to fight for this season.
[censored] FLA! [censored] TX! [censored] USC! [censored] OK! While they look good, it's not the job of our teams and fans to admire them. We want them to be good because victories will be much sweeter. When they cross paths with OSU or PSU in the bowls, they are going to be in the fight of their life. And if they underestimate the hearts of champions, they will get their doors blown off!
Go PSU! Go Big10! Whatever the outcome in the Big10, this post season, crows will be on the endangered species list because so many people will be feasting on them.
