grad... in the last year some of the viruses have gotten obviously more sophisticated... they launch immediately when you boot up... which means there is some trigger in the registry... and most software can only check inactive files... so if the virus is part of an active/running file... like a dll... these programs just blow on by...

Trend Micro, I believe, is supposed to be the leader in this arena... fighting viruses in active files...

It may only be available to the "pro" version of ad-aware (which I am running), but Ad-Aware can unload explorer (the windows environment, not IE) to remove any "active" .dll's/.exe's (it then restarts explorer where you left it).

problem with this is... even on a restart, some of the current viruses launch on startup (launched from registry)... same for starting up in safe mode... if the virus infected file (usually a dll) is linked/hinged onto the operating system, you can't segregate it as an inactive file...thus 'exempt' from most virus software...

unless the Ad-Aware Pro can do it... I know I read some of the Trend Micro software can still get at 'active' files...

Well no program in the Universe can get at "active" files. Hell even accessing it through windows explorer doesnt work as far as that goes. If you get a virus that bad, you deserve that virus, cause it comes from something stupid like opening an attachment from a complete stranger, etc :biggrin:
