Preseason polls are really the only thing still propping up the SEC hype machine. If people had to objectively rank teams later in the year for the first time instead of making biased guesses before any games are even played that hype machine would have much less steam. No matter how meh they look the year before certain SEC teams always get overrated preseason (Looking at LSU, Florida, South Carolina, Auburn especially) and of course that sets the tone with teams getting big credit for beating those teams even though they finish with 4+ losses
