Unfortunately, this appears to be so for some professors. I guess it is just another example of today's mindset where if it feels good it must be good, and how dare anyone judge otherwise.

Even when I was single and only an academic advisor at Ohio State, I never sought a relationship with any of my students even though there were plenty of attractive girls with which I would have liked to. Visual admiration is as far as I would take it. There is simply too great a risk for problems and even the appearance of favoritism can ruin one's professional reputation.

However, if the student and professor do not have a working relationship, then I don't see as much of a problem (e.g. a business student having a relationship with a Classics professor), especially when students are at the graduate level and the age difference may not be that great.

Huh??? Todays??? You actually think this is a problem of just today??? This isn't a statement about the shape of society today. It is more a statement that (good or bad) this is another item to put on the PC list.

These "professors" need to work in the real world sometime. Employers can, and do, set terms and conditions of employment. "No banging the students" can damn sure be one of them.

from my personal experience "strictly against company policy" is something companies like to say, not something companies intend to enforce. ive dated coworkers at every job i have ever had. in fact, i worked with a girl i dated for 3 years in depts. that directly interacted (she was my customer) in a company that did in fact forbid it. trust me when i tell you it didn't stop me from doing anything and at no point was i ever concerned for my job. the only times i can ever remember anyone ever getting in trouble is when they got caught having sex on company time. beyond that, my experience is upper management tends to play the don't ask don't tell game. probably because they are just as guilty as anyone else.
