I keep having this recurring thought that if Zwick goes down early in the year, Troy will come out and do his best Stanley Jackson imitation of a three step drop and then take off running for the rest of the games.

Damn I hope I'm just being paranoid

At this point, I'm happy with our quarterbacks as far as potential goes. I don't know if that will translate into success, but Zwick is a talented QB with VERY limited experience...if he goes down early, we are in a similar situation with Smith. With young QB's, Tressel will just ask them not to lose...That is why our team success doesn't depend as greatly on a single player.

I'm excited...maybe a little paranoid as well.

OilerBuck, good positive post, but...

I'm not sure where the fear of our QB's is coming from. Limited experience? Maybe limited game experience. Two years against our first team defense, damn near everyday in practice will make any young player better. People continue to moan about us not having enough garbage time in games to 'get some experience for our young players'. What kind of experience are they going to get from a bunch of third stringers and scout team players from other teams, that they can't get from playing against one of the best defenses in the country day after day?

Our QB's are going to be fine, regardless of which one starts. Once we get a cohesive O-line. As for Smith running around the field, ala Stanley Jackson. I would much rather him do that, than run around the field, slowly, then fumble, ala Thteve Belithorry. At least if he's running, he will be moving the ball. I also think that Smith wants to prove that he can read a defense and make the right throw. I don't think that he'll run as much as your fears have you losing sleep over.

I agree w/ your fears. 5 years combined of Jackson and Bellisari was too much.............

I don't think you guys are givng T Smith enough credit, niether Jackson or Beelisorri were Elite 11 QB's. Troy was. If something (God forbid) were to happen to Zwick early in the year, I think TS is a more than capable backup. THis is not a situation were like with the Jackson/Germain thing were we hoped that Jackson would get dinged and not be able to play for a couple of games (becasue I think sans Coop, everyone else in Buckeye land knew that Germain was better), but I feel that if there were a reason that TS needed to come in that he would be more than sufficient. You never know that could really screw another team that would have prepared for Zwick.

boy...i sure havent seen enough game day play from TS to be having nightmares about his play...

i prefer to think he could be the next Charlie Ward....not Stanley Jackson....

IF, Zwick goes down (not to say that Smith does not beat him out - best man play regardless), Smith has one advantage neither Jackson or Bellisari really ever had - Coach Tressel. Bellisari had Coach for only a year - already Smith has had him longer. The one cardinal rule that Coach Tressel preaches is - don't turn the ball over. If you watch Bellisari you will notice that he progressed more in his final year than he did in the three previous. In his last game against South Carolina he played a pretty good game except his last throw where he tried to force the play.

If Smith listens to Tressel, I think he will be ok. And if he has the tendency to have happy feet, I would rather have that then a forced throw for an interception. Will he make mistakes - yes but so will Zwick. All we can hope is that the defense bails us out and any mistake they make is not fatal. And if they learn from their mistakes then they will be better and so will our team.

I always thought that having 2 quality quarterbacks was a good thing. The competition and drive to get better than one another, alone is worth the possible contoversy of a fan base split between two excellent football players.

Max, you may worry about one or the other QB, but it's a luxury most schools don't have the benefit of enjoying. I'm excited by the prospect of 2 very good QBs battling it out. I've got to think this is GOOD for the Buckeyes.

I think both guys are going to play early in the season. JT will settle on someone by the Big Ten season, maybe even by NC St. JZ is most the odds on favorite by most accounts. Based on all that has been put out there though TS has the tools to do the job and adds a running dimension.

Let's give them a chance to show us what they have. I think it will be something good...

Coupled with Tressel's imaginative offense, they are going to have a hard time of it this year.

The NC St game really scares me.
Ah, another well thought out reply from the rope smoker.:roll2:

Don't you mean pole smoker?

jlb1705: ...about Louis getting crushed by the next fat chick he sleeps with.

Can't happen, seeing as he doesn't sleep with chicks.
