Nicest College Campus You've Visited?

Cornerback6

Optimism Lover
Besides the great tOSU, what is the nicest college campus you've ever been to? When traveling, I personally make a conscientious effort to stop by and swing through as many fair-sized or notable college campuses as possible. I may become a prof after I'm done in the service, so this topic always intrigues me.

Feel free to make lists of your faves or even those that left you disappointed.

I prefer historic sites as opposed to high-tech, modern spots, so I'd say Penn was probably the nicest one I've been to with Ohio U (a bit biased here) a distant second or third. Texas' core campus is pretty fancy, but the majority of it...outside the Guadalupe St. plotting is par at best.

On the other hand, Arizona was a pretty big disappointment for me.

Agree about UT (Austin). Not that impressive of a campus.

Georgia (Athens) is one of my favorites. University of Santa Barbara is by far the most visually appealing of all campuses. The view from the front of the campus is amazing.

As far as the Ivies go, I've been to UPenn, Columbia (both briefly), Harvard, and Yale. UPenn seemed very nice, Columbia blended into the city too much, I thought Harvard was somewhat overrated, but my favorite is probably Yale's campus, although I'm arguably biased given that I live in New Haven. It is urban, diverse in its architecture, incredibly historic, and has some absolutely amazing buildings and exhibits, including the Art Museum, the rare books archive, and Sterling Library. It reminds me somewhat of Georgetown's campus, but even more grandiose.

As far as Big Ten schools go, I've been to several and would probably say I really like Wisconsin's campus the best of those I've been to. (I'd really like to check out Iowa, though.)

From my time in Florida, I spent time at USF and FSU and they were both pretty crummy, especially the former, which is largely a commuter school. FSU has it's endearing qualities, but it doesn't compare to most of the Big Ten campuses I've been to, for instance.

One other campus that I was really impressed with was Vanderbilt's. Beautiful, and in a great city! (Fisk is very cool, too.)

University of Richmond
Pepperdine University
College of Charleston
Salve Regina University
University of Virginia
Fordham University (okay, I'm a little biased about that one)

Princeton is a gorgeous campus... the architecture is stunning.. the history riveting ..

A funny historic statement -- it was originally thought Princeton would never make it because "no one will go to college that far south"

Duke's campus was made as a copy of the Princeton campus. Those fucks couldn't even come up with original architecture.

I like Rochester too. If you like rural and Ivy League, then Dartmouth might appeal to you. One of my favorite runs used to be Havard Business School to MIT Sloan, across the Charles River and around. 8km stunner.

Duke is a beautiful campus but it is in Durham, which is a bit like Wharton in the bad area of Philly. Emory has a nice campus. Arizona State, Northwestern, UCLA and Stanford are others that I liked. UNC Chapel Hill never gives you the feel that you are on a large campus. Lots of trees and a small but clean football stadium. I really liked it there.

But, truthfully, I have never seen a college campus that I thought was a beautiful as Ohio State. Tonight they played the bells chiming at Big Ben on TV and you know what I heard.

UNC Chapel Thrill, College of Charleston and Davidson are all pretty sites in the Carolinas (CofC and UNC have AMAZING male:female ratios... for dudes.... and lesbians)

+1 on Durham and Philly being shitholes. They are. Not to mention, Duke and UPenn can both fuck themselves. Except the Penn Relays, which are amazing.

Cali has more than its share of great campuses: Pepperdine, UCSB and UCSD are all amazingly gorgeous. Cal and UCLA are great urban campuses. USC is in South Central, so you can do the math there...

Columbia and Georgetown are great classic, urban campuses with quadrangles and gargoyles, etc.

And, call me crazy (or a bit of a homer), but I LOVE Gambier and the area around Kenyon. The actual campus isn't all that much, but they have some pretty scenary.

Salve Regional is the one in Rhode Island, right? If so, I've been there, and yes, it is incredible. The coastal areas of Rhode Island are preposterous.

Yup...Salve Regina is in Newport, RI...it's part of the historic district. It is bordered by the Atlantic and is right next to The Breakers...
