Nice little F-you for the credit card companies.

IronBuckI

Calmer than you are.
My sister has a four year old little girl that likes to draw pictures and put them in the mail. My sister decided that this would be a good way to use up the postage-paid envelopes that credit card companies send out with their ridiculous amount of credit card offers. Simply put the pictures, instead of a credit card application, in the envelopes and mail them back to the companies. I don't have any kids of my own, so I've just started to send back empty envelopes. If they want to continue to grace me with at least two credit card offers per day. Then I think that it is my civil duty to send back their envelopes on their nickel. That way they have to pay for wasting my time. The U.S. Post Office gets the revenue from these fuckwads, and I get a small amount of satisfaction for charging the credit card companies for something that they have no use for.

You know, if the credit card companies have to spend a whole lot more on postage without getting the revenue they want from new accounts, they just may have to resort to the other big revenue booster- raising your interest rate....

You can always try attaching the envelope to a brick

Not if you don't have an account with them.

Then you'd better not have an account with any of them. Once one company raises the rates, then there is less need (reduced competition at lower rates) for other credit card companies to maintain lower rates. Having worked in the credit card industry for nearly 5 years, and having a wife working in it for 8 years, I can assure you that all rates would have some sort of increase.

I've saved up other junk mail, like catalogs and grocery store coupons to stuff in those envelopes. I should send them pictures of me shitting in an envelope with "postage paid" stamped on it. They might get paranoid that I'm going to shit in their envelope.

If it was me with that idea, I would send the picture, and then scoop up some really dry dogshit out of the backyard and mail that to them. It will have a longer shelf life and not leak out of the envelope. They won't know the difference and that is really all that matters.

Maybe, but I busted my ass to get out of credit card debt. It just pisses me off that I get 2, 3, or sometime 4 or 5 preapproved applications a day. Then the bastards try and get sneaky, now anything that says "dated material" doesn't even make it past the trash can in the garage. I don't fuck with them at home, they shouldn't fuck with me, If I thought I could get away with it I would start to bill them for the time it takes me to sort all their shit out of the real mail, and don't get me started on mortgage applications.

I think the flawed assumption here is that the rates won't go up anyway. It's not a zero-sum game.

Rates will continue to change as the market demands/allows. I implied no assumption that they won't go up, but anytime additional costs are put upon an company/industry, they need to be recouped some other way. If not by changing actual interest rates, then additional fees will be created/increased (late charges, over limit fees, etc.) Or even a tightening of present policies, such as less time before assessing late fees.

The real question is, why intentionally hasten such actions by an industry? Similar to stealing from a company, the people that are ultimately hurt by such actions are good-faith customers, shareholders, and even company employees.

The myopic viewpoint of forcing companies to deal with increased costs as a form of retalliation or to avenge some personal vendetta can hardly be construed as a productive endeavor. If you really want them to stop sending you junk mail/offers, all you have to do is send them a letter and tell them to stop sending you information. I think they then have about 30 days to comply to your request (from their date of receipt) or they become subject to fines/penalties.

The reality remains that you are either part of the solution, or part of the problem. The only win-win scenario is to properly submit a request for them to not send you any more information, and for them to comply with that request.
