They were icing an AHL team by March.

The idea that a lottery prevents tanking is ridiculous. More losses still = higher pick and better chance for the top pick. Hell, if you're bad, but not quite bad enough to finish with the worst record, the lottery gives you a reason to tank if anything.

Anyway, Bedard to Chicago was a foregone conclusion months ago. Zero chance the NHL let's him go to Anaheim, Columbus, or even San Jose. It was probably a coin flip to decide Chicago or the Habs.
