NFL team with worst personnel decisions?

king rhabuf;773545; said:
the lions had a crap load of injures + shaun rogers' drug suspension

for this offseason, my award for shitty decisions goes to the buffalo bills:

(a) not franchising clements
(b) not resigning baker (leader of their defense, and they have $30 mil in cap room)
(c) signing whittle, and giving a huge deal (hutch $$$) to dockery who isn't nearly as good
(d) they need to trade mcgahee too if they're smart

You forgot their biggest boner of all: Paying all that money to Langston Walker. As bad as the Raiders line was, he was clearly the weakest link, yet Buffalo for some unknown reason gave him 5 yrs 25 mil. Bad, bad move by the Bills. He makes Tyson Walter look like a Hall of Famer. Soft, soft, soft.

How can anyone not mention the Redskins. They've spent more money on fa's the last 4 or 5 years and have still sucked. Snyder is a joke.

There are at least 5 teams mentioned so far on this thread who are far worse than Buffalo in the front office:

(b) By Baker I assume you mean London Fletcher: he's aging and now overpaid, $30M available doesn't mean a small-market team's going to spend all of it.
(c) Whittle came aboard on a cheap 1-year contract, and I don't see how the Steinbach signing is any better than Dockery at the same price. Langston Walker's another solid addition at T.
(d) They wouldn't get much for McGahee this year anyway (with Rosenhaus demanding a longterm deal anywhere he'd go), and he's in a contract year so they'll get 1 more good one from him.
(e) I'll take Buffalo's drafts over Cleveland's ANY year.

(b) baker was the leader of your defense
(c) dockery isn't anything special and you gave him hutch $$$
(d) mcgahees going to leave after next season so you should trade and get something for him
(e) hahahahaha

(f) you guys also gave kelsay a new deal and schobel's probably pissed off

(b) WAS, maybe (and now it's Donte's turn). He's a UFA and chose to walk, not worth $5M per year at age 32.
(c) Dockery's a proven starter, fairly young, and better than most of the OLs for Buffalo & Cleveland; you always have to overspend for FAs.
(d) Turns out Buff will probably get some picks for McGahee and pickup maybe Corey Dillon & Chris Brown, which I'd be pretty pleased with, so that will work itself out.
(e) You laugh at a comparison with the Browns' draft? You are clearly a blind homer, and your BQ lovefest pretty much says it all about your draft insight.
(f) Kelsay's been a solid role player since he was drafted and likely has no effect on Schobel's attitude; they've played together for 4 years already.

As for the other little nugget, what Raider O-lineman doesn't make Tyson Walter look like a HoFer? :tongue2:

I'm going to reserve my vote for after the draft. If the Browns draft Brady Quinn at #3, it's going to be an easy choice.

Quarterbacks are tough to guess. Tim Couch is the #1 pick one year, and he doesn't do much. Tom Brady is the #500 pick another year, and he's all-pro. I think you need to wait 4-6 years before you can say that a quarterback was a bad choice, in the long run.

In the short run, I think that most quarterbacks are poor choices. It seems that most quarterbacks need a couple of years under their belts before they can start to impact a team positively.

If I were to make a prediction, I would agree with you. My guess is that Brady Quinn would not be a good draft pick for the Browns.

I'm not going to pretend that I can rank the Browns to other teams, as far as bad draft picks. But the Browns have had a combination of bad luck and total stupidity. Who, in his right mind, picks a tight end in the first round, and wastes a second round pick to get that tight end? They ought to draft some cheerleaders or a mascot, if they're being retards.

Or a coach and a front office...

I think they did decent with the draft last year. Guys like Wilson still make me think "wtf?", but they got some guys who can contribute. This year Savage needs to have a great draft.

you guys made a HUGE reach for whitner last year and mccargo missed the whole year basically.

Yeah, a huge reach that turned out to be a great pick :roll2:

Whitner was a nearly season-long starter (105 tackles, 2nd on team), as was 4-pick Ko Simpson (77 tackles, 2 picks), 3-pick Youboty could vie for starter this season, 5-pick Kyle Williams started at nose tackle (53 tackles), 6-pick Keith Ellison got to start at WLB (59 tackles), 7-pick Terrance Pennington started at RT. McCargo played 5 games and broke his foot, but he'll be in the mix this year for sure. That was one of the best Bills drafts I've seen in awhile, and there have been a ton of good ones.
