NFL Mock Drafts (2016)

Darron Lee is listed as 6'2" and 235 lbs. - the pretty much the same size Ryan Shazier was when he was drafted with the 15th pick.

You're throwing out plenty of bold predictions and hot takes of your own, chief.

Recent history says that two RBs were taken in the first fifteen picks this year as underclassmen.

I understood Lee was 6'1"/220#. Maybe those were his Freshamn dimensions. I like Lee a lot, I think he'll be a fine NFL football player, I'm just not yet ready to declare him a 1st rounder.

Last weekends draft says RB's are still valued as 1st rounders, but the past 5 years or so don't reflect that. Maybe their value is coming back. I do know that EZE will be a great one, regardless of where he is drafted. I hope it's early.

I don't consider any of my predictions to be bold. I'm on your side, I want every Buckeye to be a 1st rounder.

Holy fuck guys

The value of RB's isn't necessarily coming back in the way that you'll see 2-3 taken in the 1st round. However when you find that rare, exceptional tailback that can contribute in all three phases running, catching, pass blocking.
You'll see that teams won't be afraid of putting down the pick on that kind of weapon. Make no mistake about it, EzE is that kind of weapon.

You saying that Bosa won't be at least be a top five pick is bold because he would have been the first DE taken this year if he were draft eligible.

OK. I knew he was projected early, honestly didn't realize he may be the first DE. As good as Bosa is, I'd have a hard time selecting him over Fowler this year, but that is not a knock on Bosa what-so-ever. I beleive he is ultimately a first rounder, it's just tough to predict. Many factors involved. I think "guaranteeing" anything in regards to the NFL draft is probably a risky move.

Regardless - I hope Bosa has an outstanding season in 2015, and I hope he is drafted #1.

My thoughts:

Bosa: Top pick overall. Has no flaws and unless the top pick is outright desperate for a QB, you take him. I think of it like when the Texans really needed a QB but took Clowney because he was too damn talented to pass. Same with Joey, except he isn't a pussy like Clowney and has more production to back up his talents. He would have to have an awful year to fall below 5 imo.

Decker: I am higher on Decker than many and think he could be one of the top 3 OL off the board. There was not a huge run on tackles this year, so I think he could be in business. He has the length, wingspan, great feet, and attitude of a 1st rounder. He will need a solid combine/pro day/season but I think if he does that, he is in the 10-15 range depending on team needs.

Elliott: No reason he can't go as high as Gurley if he plays next season like he did the last 4-5 games for us. Dynamic, explosive, strong, grinds out tough yards, showed great durability with so many carries, catches the ball well (used to be a receiver in high school), and absolutely loves to block...he was detonating LBs in gaps on runs and stonewalling rushers in the pass game. Plus there are zero character issues. There is nothing missing in my eyes. RB has been devalued some but I still think he could go as high as 10, or as low as late 1st.

Lee: Huge wildcard imo. He might benefit by staying one more year but we will see. I don't think he falls further than late 2nd or early 3rd, but he could be talking high 1st if he gets up around 235-240.

Cardale: No idea. He could be the 1st pick or go into the later rounds imo. He has so, so, so much potential and physical prowess but I am not 100% sold on his decision making and accuracy. In rewatching his starts, there were numerous times he should have got picked off but didn't (and I will give you his WRs caused a few turnovers that he put on the money). Sometimes he was getting too confident in his arm strength and forcing throws that he won't get away with in the NFL. Now those are both things he can improve on and if he starts and confirms the progress over the course of a season, he will be a very, very high pick. If not, we shall see.

Michael Thomas: This guy will shine without Devin getting the attention. He builds on last season and I think he is a prototype WR. He needs a great season and workouts before the draft, but I could see him going in the 1st.

Vonn Bell: Size is a bit of an issue unless he's packed on another 10-15 lbs. but the talent is undeniable. I would hate to see him leave early but he could make a run at the 1st with another great season. Ball hawk that loves to hit and I think the NFL teams will be all over him.

- Overall: I would think we get at least 3 guys in the first and although you can never fully predict it, there could be 5-6.

Why are we spending so much time talking about Ohio State draft prospects, when 18 Wolverines might get drafted in 2016. Some gems from the article:

Graham Glasgow, OL (RS Sr.): The 6'6", 303 lb. Glasgow comes with some off-the-field issues having to do with alcohol, but he has been Michigan's most consistent lineman over the past two seasons. He has the ability to play center, guard, or tackle, although his best fit is probably the guard position. He could probably carry some additional weight if necessary. If Michigan finds success on the ground, much of the credit will probably go to Glasgow, who will probably be the starting center this year now that Jack Miller has departed.

Ondre Pipkins, DT (Sr.): I include the 6'3", 317 lb. Pipkins almost exclusively due to his size. Some fans still have high expectations for him, thinking that a torn ACL suffered during his sophomore season is the thing preventing him from reaching his potential. That may be a factor, because it takes longer for big guys to recover from those types of injuries. However, Pipkins has just 23 tackles and 1 tackle for loss through three seasons. If he were to launch himself into a draftable player, it would essentially come out of nowhere.

Kyle Kalis, OG (RS Jr.): Kalis is essentially a returning two-year starter, and while he has not played up to his recruiting hype, he has the body to be an NFL offensive guard. The coaching at Michigan has been questionable for the past few years, but even so, Kalis has seemed not to fully understand his responsibilities. He has a mean streak and an NFL body, so if things click mentally for him this season, the scouts could come calling.

Kipers Big Board [In$ider], Bosa #1 overall, 4 Buckeyes in Top 20, 6 Buckeyes total.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draf...-mel-kiper-too-early-2016-big-board-nfl-draft

1. *Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State Buckeyes

John Bosa was the No. 3-ranked defensive end in my 1987 draft guide coming out of Boston College and eventually went No. 17 overall to Miami. I'd put No. 17 overall on the low end of any projections for his son. Joey has size (6-foot-6, 275 pounds), versatility that will fit any scheme and the ability to go around blockers or right through them. He has piled up 34.5 tackles for loss in two seasons, and that's without a developmental redshirt season.

:slappy:
Blake Countess (RS Sr.): Countess has had an up-and-down career for the Wolverines. After showing promise as a freshman, he tore his ACL in 2012. Then he had 6 interceptions in 2013, followed by zero - and basically losing his job - as a redshirt junior in 2014, when he did have 24 tackles and 3 pass breakups. If the odd year trend continues, he's poised for a big year here in 2015. The 5'10", 185 lb. Countess will be battling Jourdan Lewis and Wayne Lyons for playing time, but Countess has a shot to get drafted pretty high if he performs like he did two years ago.

So he couldn't keep his job on a college team that didn't even go bowling... but NFL teams will want to draft him - in early rounds no less!
Delusional.

Looks like only 17 Wolverines will get drafted now....

My past four years here at the University of Michigan have been great! Nothing but love and appreciation for Ann Arbor, the faculty, the coaches, the support staff and the great fans but after many sleepless nights and much prayer I have decided to play my final year of eligibility elsewhere. I truly thank those that have been there for me and hope you would continue to do so.

That pick didn't make a damn lick of sense yet the talking heads loved it. The guy has been more than lightly injured 3 times in career and wasn't a once in a generation talent at RB. I honestly could see him going like Beanie a good year or two then out of the league cause of injuries.

It made sense because he has two proven NFL players in front of him.
He has the rare opportunity to get minimal snaps while recovering and rebuilding his strength.

Fisher flat out said they drafted him to be the 2016 starter. Barring no further injuries, Gurley and Mason is a Top 5 NFL Backfield in 2016.

Pipeline to Pros: Top 25 CFB teams with most NFL talent in 2015

1. Ohio State
Players to watch: WR/H-back Braxton Miller, QB Cardale Jones, QB J.T. Barrett, RB Ezekiel Elliott, WR Mike Thomas, DE Joey Bosa, DT Adolphus Washington and OT Taylor Decker.

The outlook: The Buckeyes will remain a perennial power under Urban Meyer due to his tireless work on the recruiting trail. The roster is full of four- and five-star talents on each side of the ball. Meyer isn't afraid to put his young guys on the field in starring roles. Thus, scouts are very comfortable with the Buckeyes' top prospects due to their experiences playing in elite competitions. Bosa might be the headliner of the group as the destructive force along the Buckeyes' defensive line. He is an active edge rusher with a non-stop motor and sneaky first-step quickness. Although his character will be questioned now that he's been suspended for the first game of the season, scouts are certainly smitten with his ability to get after the passer. Offensively, the Buckeyes trot out one of the best lineups in college football. The unit features three dynamic quarterbacks (Miller, Jones and Barrett), yet the offense flows through an old-school running back (Elliott) with exceptional qualities as a runner-receiver. With the additional contributions from Thomas on the perimeter, the Buckeyes' loaded lineup will keep scouts busy this fall.

Newcomer in the spotlight: ATH/QB Torrance Gibson. Meyer will certainly give Gibson a shot to play quarterback down the road, but the ultra-explosive athlete could step onto the field as one of the Buckeyes' designated playmakers at wide receiver right away. The 6-foot-5, 207-pounder shows extraordinary skill with the ball in his hands, which should lead Meyer to give his talented freshman a few touches early in the season to see if he can add a spark to the offense. If Gibson flashes during the Buckeyes' non-conference games, he could carve out a significant role as a versatile weapon on the perimeter.

Cont'd ...

2016 Mock Draft: Can Ohio State set a new first round record?
By Dane Brugler | NFLDraftScout.com Senior Analyst
September 8, 2015 11:16 am ET

The unanimous No. 1 team in college football, Ohio State has arguably the most talented roster in the country, which should translate to several draft picks next spring. Miami (Fla.) set the NFL record with six first round selections in the 2004 class, but the Buckeyes could challenge that mark next spring.

...

2. Tennessee Titans – Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State
11. Buffalo Bills – Cardale Jones, QB, Ohio State
18. Chicago Bears – Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State
21. Carolina Panthers – Taylor Decker, OT, Ohio State
29. Dallas Cowboys – Darron Lee, LB, Ohio State
30. Seattle Seahawks – Michael Thomas, WR, Ohio State
32. Green Bay Packers – Adolphus Washington, DT, Ohio State
