I dont see the point, do rounds 4-7 really draw a big enough audience to push it to expand the thing another day?

NFL draft will expand to three days in 2010 - ESPN

The audience for the NFL draft has been growing, and the league has responded by expanding the event from two to three days.

Commissioner Roger Goodell notified teams Thursday that the draft will be spread over three days in 2010, running Thursday, April 22, through Saturday, April 24.

In addition, the first round will start in prime time at 7:30 p.m. ET.

"We continue to look for ways to make the draft more accessible to more fans," Goodell said in a statement. "Moving the first round to prime time on Thursday night will make the first round of the draft available to fans on what is typically the most-watched night of television."

ESPN and the NFL Network will televise the entire show.

The second and third rounds will start at 6:30 p.m. ET on April 23.

Rounds 4 through 7 will be on April 24, starting at 10 a.m. ET.

A total of 39 million viewers watched the draft this year.

The NFL said the first round lasted just under 3? hours in 2009, which would fit neatly into a prime-time slot.

From 1988 to 1994, the NFL held its draft on Sunday-Monday two-day blocks. From 1995 to 2009, the league made it a Saturday-Sunday event.

I think the point is round 1 can draw TV viewers to prime time for one evening and 2-3 can do it the next day, or so they hope. Two nights of prime time advertising beats the shit out of 10 am Saturday/Sunday $$$. I don't think they care about rounds 4-7 because only diehards will watch them, anyway.

Not "if" but "when". RR's Spread is headed to the NFL. Only a matter of time.
I think the spread depends on the mismatch of athletes it sets up. Everyone is big and fast in the NFL, and so the advantages of getting a Harvin type on a merely adaquate linebacker, as you do in college, will not be so advantageous. Most college teams will have several mismatches on skill level. NFL, not so much.

Actually, I think it will be used situationally with some teams playing in domes or in the south with consistantly good footing. Not as a team wide scheme, but I can see it added to the Vikings playbook in red zone situations to make use of Percy. Kind of like the 'phins in 08 with the wildcat.

And both done because they don't have a quarterback.

Just when I was hoping they'd shorten the whole things to about 2 1/2 hrs... I don't wanna hear pick analysis... I wanna hear rapid fire name-after-name-after-name... we'll analyze it AFTERWARDS
