I guess. The DB was suspended for the season because he's a known POS. Pittman was in mid-air. He wasn't going anywhere but to the ground, and the DB ran full speed and dove at the top of his head. If we expect backup QBs to make better decisions, I'm going to expect DBs to do the same. That hit was intended to injure. It wasn't necessary. He could have went over and touched him and the same play result would have occurred, but minus injury and suspension.
EDIT: I sounded more hostile here than I intended!
You're fine, relax about the sounding hostile bubs. Though I appreciate it. Having said that, what I'm about to say will come across like I'm an asshole. Just a warning.
I'm not saying Kazee isn't an doucher, but the DB was already lowering his leverage to strike low on a *MUCH* taller Pittman. When Kazee lowered his leverage, Pitt layed out to catch the pass and his head sunk immediately, putting his upper body directly into the path the contact was made.
That wasn't a hit intended to injure in the manner it which it happened. Was Pittman going to get lit up? Yes. But in a way that's consistent with the hard-hitting, but clean nature, that football can be. I despise the Steelers and most of their fans, but I have no doubt that it was a hit meant to be anything other than what I've described.
And if you're saying it isn't "necessary" to hit receivers, but for the DB to let Pittman catch, or even *possibly* catch the ball, then touch him as he goes to the ground? Respectfully, fuck that. Go find a new sport because that ain't football.
I circle back around to Kirk Cousins crying last season. Kirky seems like a solid dude, but he was upset about Gilmore hitting Jefferson when JJ elevated to make a catch. Kirk, to my knowledge the whole time, never acknowledge he threw the ball at a trap cloud corner, and that the pass was high, causing his receiver to leave his feet and lose what ability he had to protect himself.
STOP telling defenders to protect offensive players. It's essentially a form of gaslighting. Offenses, specifically QB's, need to be held accountable by their teammates, their coaches, and most importantly the media on this stuff. Because none of them are going to hold themselves accountable in a game that has been consistently and significantly shifted to favor offenses while punishing defenses for bad offensive play. Play as we live and live as we play - fierce but intelligently. Above all - be accountable. Football emulates life, and when I see QB's bitching about hits they lead their receivers into, I can't help but look around at the state of the world and laugh at how many other things I see that parallel the whiny absurdity.
That said, have a great Christmas my guy.
For reference on the Gilmore hit last season.
