Yes when you have a great QB you can have mediocre receivers and do it. But having elite ones helps and asking them to carry ones that should be backups in the league is terrible

Yeah, isn’t it always on the guys on the line to check with the refs to make sure they are lined up okay? At least that’s what I assume happens when a receiver looks to the sideline when he lines up and sticks his arm out in the same direction.
