NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

I am shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, that yet another Josh McDaniels experiment failed miserably. It's almost like as soon as they leave Vince McMahon (er, Bellichick) who can reign in their stupid and keep them on track, they go full fuckmuffin and make a mockery of the coaching profession. But hey, it's not like Davis could have looked at the first, oh, 35 examples of that from the past.

that's not it at all. for this to be how it went down, you'd have to allow for the Raiders to be competent enough to try and win games. They just needed a warm body to replace Carr. Without Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy G was about the best they could do. It's not like they hand picked him because they thought he was special.

They gave him a $72 million contract and got rid of a better QB to do it.

Right. They're incompetent. But they didn't think they found the answer or anything. They didn't see Jimmy G, think "oh we need to have that" and are just now figuring out that he's not good. They shipped Carr off and just needed a QB. He was on the pile of shitty QBs that nobody wanted, so they grabbed him.

Jimmy was "functional" in Kyle Shanahan's offense. Shanny has his flaws, but it's hard to argue against his ability to craft an effective, if not dynamic offense. McDaniel is a Tom Brady-merchant. Anytime Brady was not in the picture, McDaniel has been slightly above average at best, dreadful more often than not.

The Raiders are a mess. They've spent unwisely, they've made dumb trades, they've received very little return from their last several drafts and they are in need of pretty much a ground-up rebuild. Gruden fucked that roster up badly, and McDaniel and the other GM did nothing to improve it. Will they admit that and commit to it, though? Because slapping band-aids on gaping wounds has got them to this point.
