NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

True - I'll agree the contact may not have been much in the grand scheme of things, but it was Mahome's willingness to put himself out there like that that gets guys geeked up in that situation. Showed that he was willing to lay it all on the line to get the W.
Showed that he's a dumbass. He did the same thing later in the game and got rocked. How's it going to look all motivational speaker-ish while you're headed back to the locker room and Chad Henne is trotting out down 10 in the Super Bowl?

Robert Saleh has a bad quarter 21 points by KC. When Hill caught that arm punt..49er D quiit. Shanahan and Saleh got out coached by Reid and Spagnulo.
Yeah. They coached a nearly perfect game for about 52 minutes, then just outsmarted themselves the last 8. Also, the Niners' clear weakness all season has been the secondary, and it showed up in brutal fashion on that fucking arm punt. They were dominating KC and essentially shutting them down...how do you let THAT happen? I'm a firm believer that momentum is more important than anything else in crunch time and they went from having ALL of the momentum and looking at clinching the game to basically handing it to Mahomes and KC because the secondary went full fucking retard on that play. As soon as he caught that pass I said "they blew it, they are losing this fucking game."

Saleh's one big mistake, in all honesty his only mistake, was to continue trying to send that 5 man pressure. Especially on the early downs which was a head scratcher. I only remember it working one time and that was when they forced KC to only a FG in the 2nd qtr. The safety caught Williams over the middle on that little angle/choice and hit him well before the sticks. But that was it.

KC has too many sight adjustments, too many RPO's and too many weapons to get cute like that on early downs. They don't mind playing the space game either and making you show your hand. Nobody was fooled with K'waun Williams coming off the slot. Now I could agree with that call if you're trying to not play scared and can't generate pressure. If Mahomes was carving you up and had all day to throw? Sure, fuck yeah. Because at that point you have to try to play defense.

But the Niners front 4 was mostly getting it done. PM just made a couple timely scrambles to help negate the pocket collapsing but you have to learn to live with that. The last thing you want is him having time to stand back there and rocket arm shit or worse, give easy throws to his speed demons with space against the San Fran secondary. A secondary not built to hold up in man coverage. That's what bothered me the most. They were pressure calls that simply didn't have to be made when you're winning the numbers game up front.

edit: Side thought - Sherm got fucking embarrassed last night by more than one KC receiver. Dude is a solid corner, but he talks too much and isn't as great as he would lead you to believe.

Never said it was bright , but we're talking about a sport where highly athletic men get armored up and run at each other full speed, so....

Neither, but go on. I'm intrigued.

Well I'm going off assuming limited sample size in your case. In the last 20 years off the top of my head, the 99, 01, 03 & 04, 07, 08, 09, 10', 11', 14' and 17' football seasons all had better super bowls.

I guess you can count 16' and the Falcons choke job because it was overtime and a ridiculous comeback. I just hated seeing the Pats win that one.

Last night was a decent game for 3 quarters. I stress decent over 'great' or 'exciting'

2013 was the best, easily.
